Can't delete emails in Outlook 2007

I had to reinstall Vista and other programs. Now I cannot delete emails
(Outlook 2007). When I attempt to delete, I only get lines through the
messages.

Create a folder tasks or whatever you want to call it and then move the tasks that you want to delete or that you cant delete from your inbox in there and then delete the folder. It will delete the tasks and folder for good,

I am using an IMAP folder. There seems to be no Deleted Items folder that is
automatically created or that I can create. When I tell the program to
delete, it sometimes just "disappears" the email and sometimes puts a
strikeout through it. However, my question is where do the deleted items go?
Without a Deleted Items folder, I am at a loss. As we all know, sometimes
you delete something you wish you had not. How can I retrieve deleted mail?

Correct. IMAP protocols do not implement a Deleted Items folder. Instead,
clicking Delete merely marks the message for deletion, usully by displaying
the subject with an overstrike. You purge those marked items with
Edit>Purge Deleted Messages".

I suspect that in some folders you're using the "Hide Messages Marked for
Deletion" view and in others using the "IMAP Messages" view.

They don't go anywhere. They stay on the server in the folder that hold
them until you purge them. You recover them buy not deleting or purging
them. It's similar to asking "How do I recover deleted messages after I
emptied my Deleted Items folder?" The answer is, in general, "you don't.
They're gone for good," if you've purged them. If they're not purged, right
click one you want to keep and choose Undelete or click Edit and select
Undelete.

Thanks for the info Brian. However, I just went in to try your advice and it
did not behave the way you described. I am in my imap.gmail.com set of
folders, specifically in the "inbox". When I click on "Views" and "Current
View", I see the "MAP messages" option, the "Hide Deleted Messages" option
and the "Group Deleted Messages Together" option. Only the "IMAP Messages"
option is checked. And yet, when I go to the inbox and delete an item, it
disappears.

Ah, well, gmail has its own quirks and does not behave as most (all?) other
IMAP servers. it is POP implemenation is not standards-compliant either.

Well, at least I am not going crazy. Please look at my post under install
and configuring... "IMAP - Outlook 2007 How Do I..." posted today. The first
/ desktop machine doesn't have a deleted items folder, doesn't show you where
the deleted items go. The second / laptop machine has an imap folder which
does have a deleted items folder and that is where the deleted items go.

I tested my gmail account (Also IMAP) and it doesn't have a Deleted Items

create the Deleted Items folder in IMAP PSTs. Please recheck the type of
account that has the Deleted Items folder and see if, in fact, it's really
an IMAP account.

Normally I'd say that if the server contains "imap" in its name you'd be
correct to assume it's an IMAP server, but since "imap.gamil.com",
"smtp.gmail.com", and "pop.gmail.com" are all alias for the same servers,
they're interchangeable and don't tell you anything about the account type.

Microsoft Outlook 2007 on Vista Home Premium: IMAP does not create Deleted Items Folder and items in the Inbox cannot be deleted in one workstep
Hello,
I hope you are still listening to that topic, even though the initial discussion is more than 1 year old. I had to re-install the operating system and the M.S. Office pack inclusive of M.S. Outlook. And - despite I was using M.D. Outlook 2007 for quite a while - this problem with not being able to delete items in the Inbox Folder in one workstep and the problmes with not havingt a Deleted Items Folder comes up.

It is annoying to first first get the strikethrough on items in the inbox when clicking the "delete" button and afterwards have to go to Edit - purge.
Is there a solution to that meanwhile? I did not come across that problem in M.S. Outlook until some days ago.

And how to create a Deleted Folder under IMAP? I am using one.com as domain host. Is it wise to switch to POP and excaping M.S. Outlook problems?

I am working in Outlook 2007 and use a gmail account. When I configured my
gmail account to Outlook 2007 I did so by choosing the IMAP rather than the
POP setting. Most basic tasks go well except for recovering/finding deleted
items.

Typically, when I'm done reading an email, I'll delete it using the delete
button while in the email or I'll delete it from the inbox by pressing on my
Delete key. Once I do that, the email is permanently gone (you should know
that I'm typically connected live to the internet when
reviewing/reading/deleting email--meaning I'm not working in Outlook
offline). It does not go to a trash or delete folder where I can then choose
to manually empty the folder. I do not or cannot find a 'recover deleted
email' option in Outlook 2007.

It seems most folks want their email to go away permanently but I'm one of
those folks who sometimes finds a need to refer back to a deleted email. I
need information on recovering deleted emails in Outlook 2007 with my IMAP
settings.

Is there a solution?

Hi,

I'm trying to send email in Outlook 2007. When I type a person's name,

When deleting emails in Outlook, it only puts a line though the header, but

sending email in outlook 2007 is not working. My gut tells me it has
something to do with the setup.

Cannot send or receive email in Outlook 2007 after the Windows Office Service
Pack update - has anyone else noted this - is there a solution?

Hello,

This is my first posting in this group. I use Windows XP Home. If I
want to delete email in Outlook Express, I have to click on each one
individually and then click on edit and then click on delete.
Is there a way that I can click on the emails I want to delete and
delete all of them at once? On the computer I used to use at work, I
could highlight an email and drag it down and highlight as many as I
wanted and delete them all with one click on delete.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Charles

How can I recover deleted contacts in Outlook 2007, they do not appear in any
deleted folder.

How do I select all (text) of an email in Outlook 2007? (other then Ctrl+A)
I was unable to find the option/button and Select All does not appear during
right-click.

The text cursor seems to dissappear while typing email in outlook 2007.
This include the whole sentences dissappear while typing and the users did
not look on the screen.
This problem seems to relate to when new mail message arrives,it interferes
with typing in any application the user happens to be using at the time.
This problem only happen for office 2007 and this do not happen in office
2003.
Is there any fix or solution for this problem? This problem is quite
annoying and giving hard time to the users.
Any help is appreciated.
