OE won't open .email file extension attachments

I am using Windows XP Home and Outlook Express for my e-mail. I successfully
receive tens of e-mails per day. However, I have a problem opening one
friend’s e-mails. If this friend sends me an e-mail, it comes in with an
..eml attachment which I can open without problem. If he forwards me an
e-mail, it comes in with an .email file extension which, when I try to open
it, gives me a message that there is no file association and will not open.
I have marked the .email file extension in "file associations" to open in
Outlook Express but this does not help. My friend uses MSN as his internet
provider.

I can open the .email file extension by saving the attachment to my hard
drive and changing the .email to .eml or by going to my internet provider’s
e-mail program and opening the sent e-mail. Both are a little cumbersome and
I’m wondering why Outlook Express won’t handle this?

we're running Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP. We have multiple users
on this machine and on one of the user identities OE won't open.
The only dialog box that comes up says that there is no identities
but the program itself doesn't open. On the other user identities it
loads just fine. I don't know what happened. Even if I go to the programs
folder and launch the application file it just brings up the dialog
box I mentioned earlier. Any ideas what could have happened? Could this be
a problem with IE7? This all happened after deleting temporary internet
files using the tools drop down in IE.

Hello Group:

Windows XP Pro SP3
IE 6
After a windows reinstall, everything works fine except OE. I have the
standard OE account, and added two mail accounts for hotmail. It works
fine after setting up the new mail accounts until I reboot. Then OE
won't open at all. No error message.
The only way I have been able to (temporarily) correct it is to
completely uninstall OE (I used the "outlook express removal tool"
from James River software), then reinstall it, and add my two hotmail
accounts.
Again, it then works fine until I reboot, then it won't open at all.
Does anyone have any clue about what may be going on here? Or how to
fix the problem?

Many thanks.

Jack

In OE6 I cannot open a pdf attachment. I have Adobe Reader 9 and it opens
the attachment after I save it and exit OE. Reader also opens pdf files
using Internet Explorer. But in OE6 it just reports: Unknown file type - Use
Folder options to make association.

Actually, the association is already included in the filetype options - for
pdf files, use Adobe Reader9. So why won't OE recognize this association?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

I posted this is question in the OE Stationery Group without a response so
I'm posting here hoping to get some help.

I can't open my saved .eml files in Outlook Express anymore. Now when I
select the file it opens in Window Livemail. How can I get .eml files to
open in Outlook Express
again. Thanks for the help.

PS: I tried right clicking on the .eml file and selected Open With but
Outlook Express was not listed as an option. After playing with it for a
while it eventually showed Outlook Express as an option but when I selected
it, I got an error message saying Outlook Express could not open this type of
file. Strange.

For past year, on my WinXP, OE 6 has worked off and on, so i usually use my
servers email. Recently upgraded to IE 7.0, and now oE won't open at all,
says it has a missing msoe.dll. The MS Instant Messenger worked, I haven't
tried it lately, as my teens use another iM. My PC search shows the only
msoe.dll, appears in the iM file. I can't find where to update or redownload
the program from MS, so can I just copy it into the OE 6 file?

Please reply to

OE6 won't open on my son's user ID(XP). It will on other user ID's. How do I
fix his OE. The error is MSOE.dll will not initialize.

I just installed Sp2 on my Dell computer with Xp professional and now outlook
express (6) won't open. I get the "outlook express has encountered a problem
and needs to close....' error box right after the blue outlook express box
appears briefly. OE never actually opens.

I found that renaming the wab and then importing into wab.exe through the
'run' program will then allow OE to open. But this solution will last only as
long as the computer is on. Once I restart, same error box. How can I solve
this permanently?

The error signature is
AppName: msimn.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180
ModName: version.dll
Offset: 0000191c

Exception information is
Code: 0xc0000005
Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x0000000000000000
Address: 0x0000000077c0191c

System information is
Windows NT 5.1 Build: 2600
CPU vendor code: 756E6547 - 49656E69 - 6C65746E
etc. not sure if all the rest is important.

Thanks Much
Lloyd

Most of my friends use AOL, and recently when I get an email from them the
attached email won't open to reveal the message sent. With AOL messages, I
usually had to open several layers of forwarded messages before seeing the
first message. Now, nothing will open, help.
The message I get: The file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this actions. Create an association in the Folder Options in
control panel..... I tired, but I don't know what type of file the AOL
attach is.

Since recently upgrading to 2007, I have run into a problem with email
attachments not opening. I think I have deduced that they all have .msg
extensions to the attachment file type. or it says Outlook file type. For
whatever reason they won't open. Any help would be appreciated.

I am using the web-based email program of my ISP.  I have just purchased a new, I7 processor, 64 bit computer, Office 2010, Windows 7.  .docx attachments won't open.  My computer interprets them as zipped and puts them in a temporary internet folder, but none of the files or folders that are saved will open the document, if I click on them.  I "chatted" with Microsoft Office help today for about an hour.  They took control of my computer and made many changes, none of which worked.  I did a system restore, and I'm back where I started.  All of these attachments open fine on my old, Windows XP, Office 2007 computer.  HELP!!

Can't open *.eml file attached to an email or saved on another folder. can
see outlook on "open with" option but still it will not open

I've read most of the threads on this subject via this site.

I have a user [Outlook '03 on XP machine] where attachment files (PDF, PPS
and maybe others) won't open. One can select via right click, open, save as,
etc. dialog box appropriate to the action come up. Upon selecting "Open"
"Save" I receive error message. "operation failed; object could not be
found" or similar.

I've tried deleting registry temp files
Google Desktop is not installed
I've tried to restore affected file associations

I'm wondering if I'm missing any other settings or apps that may be
affecting this.

We've found a work around... forward the email. Then we can open the
attachments. This is good as a temp fix, but quite a pain when dealing
with multiple emails and attachments.

Thanks for any information, thoughts, or suggestions,

Hi,

I recently had to do a "restore to factory specs.". Every thing is working
OK now except one item.
I had backed up on CD a number of "Stationeries", saved with the extension
..eml. Previous to the backing up these could merely be clicked on and would
appear ready to be sent as E-Mails complete with text, graphics and music.

Now on clicking on one of these, error messages appear:
"OE could not be started. 0x800C000D".
"MSOE.DLL could not be initialized".

OE works perfectly in all other respects and when I right-click one of these
..eml files and choose "Send to/ Mail recipient", it works! OE opens up but
with the file as an attachment. I would much rather have it "the way things
were".

Is there some way I can do this?
Thank you.
