notifications couldn't be retrieved

I'm having an issue with Exchange 2010 and OWA. My users are not recieving email or event notifications. They instead recieve an error at the top of the screen that says "notifications couldn't be retrieved". I need to remedy this so my OWA users recieve notifications.

On our exchange 2010 servers in the recipient configuration > mailbox I right click on a user and select send mail and I get the message "the operation couldn't be performed because the default mail client isn't properly installed"
I googled this and not found and information at all on this error does any one have any ideas

Current configuration:

1 Exchange 2010 (recently upgraded to SP2) CAS/HUB/Mailbox roles on Windows 2008 R2
1 Exchange 2010 (recently upgraded to SP2) Mailbox roles on Windows 2008 R2
I set up a DAG a few month ago LUX-DAG01 specifing a witness server and a witness directory on another cas-only exchange server on a remote site.

When I upgraded to SP2 I noticed that all nodes went down and databases got dismounted.
I have seen that the quorum mode is Node majority.
So I'm trying to configure my quorum to Node and File Share majority juste like the other dag that I already set up.

When I run the command
set-databaseavailabilitygroup -id servername -witnessserver swexcht001.dnsdomain -witnessdirectory "D:DAGFileShareWitnessesLUX-DAG01.dnsdomain"
I receive the following error:

File share witness resource 'swexcht001.dnsdomainLUX-DAG01.dnsdomain' couldn't be brought online.
The current state is 'Failed'.

Here is the result of a get-databaseavailabilitygroup -id lux-dag01 |fl

I'm trying to update my exchange2013 installation, using this guide: Installing Cumulative Updates for Exchange Server 2013

Everything works fine until the step "role: Mailboxservice" (i have to translate from german)
It fails with last words:
Die Datenbank mit der ID a4998add-ac80-4497-bdc5-906a0859b984 konnte nicht gefunden werden."
The databse with ID a4998add-ac80-4497-bdc5-906a0859b984 couldn't be found
Server is a 2008R2

Any hints for me?
Thanks

Hi,

I have a windows 2008 server R2 with exchange 2010. Everything was working fine, however, I installed sharepoint 2010 and then uninstalled it once i realised it stopped OWA from working at all. Since then, everything was back to normal....except one thing. When i log into OWA, everything logs in okay, i can only view emails without attachments. When i click on an email that has an attachment, it gives me an error within the message pane on owa saying "An unexpected error occurred and your request couldn't be handled."

When i look in the event logs i have a particular log that may be relevant (see below event log message). I am not sure how to resolve this....anyone have any suggestions?

Start event log message

Watson report about to be sent for process id: 6600, with parameters: E12IIS, c-RTL-AMD64, 14.00.0694.000, OWA, M.Exchange.Net, M.E.S.R.P.ProtectorsManager.LoadProtectors, M.E.S.R.Protectors.AttachmentProtectionException, 8b03, 14.00.0694.000.

ErrorReportingEnabled: False

End

Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to look at my client access configuration on my new Exchange 2010 install.  I'm getting the error "An IIS directory entry couldn't be created.  The error message is Access is denied.  .HResult = -2147027891  It was running the command 'Get-Owa-VirtualDirectory'.

In reading the forums, I see this is usually due to the Exchange Trusted Subsystem group not being a local admin on the server.  However, I have verified that DOMAINExchange Trusted Subystem is in the Server's Administrators group.  What could be the other causes?

When I try and and delete anything in my mailbox using OWA I get an "An Unexpected Error occured and your requeste couldn't be handled".

 Exchange 2010 with SP1.

I have checked the bindings and there are no hostnames. Its the same for all users.

Upon looking in the event log I find the following:

I have recently installed exchange 2010 in a mixed environment (exchange 2003 and exchange 2007), Installation completed without any errors. Now when I try to access the “Outlook Web App” Tab under 2010 CAS server, I receive an error “An IIS directory entry couldn't be created.  The error message is Access is denied.  .HResult = -2147027891 “. having said that ,same command work's fine on Exchange 2007 Server .Google search and  forums pointed me to add   “Exchange Trusted Subsystem”  to  Local Administrator Group on all the exchange servers (including 2007 and 2003 ) , still no luck .. Any help or pointers will be greatly appreciated .

Current Setup :

through active directorty added Exchange Trusted Subsystem to local Administrator on both exchange 2010 and exchange 2003. Added computers (All 4 exchange servers) to the Exchange Trusted Subsystem Group. Restarted all servers.

on both exchange 2003 servers and DC windows2003 servers, dcomcnf -> Component Services -> My computer properties -> default impersonation level was already at 'Impersonate' (although the DCs were initially at 'Identify' but changed them to 'Impersonate' as well, not sure if that matters)

reset owa-virtual directory through the EMC on server26.

Tried adding full control permissions for Exchange Trusted Subsystem on both the inetpub directory and on the default website under IIS on server26.

made sure all modules below were installed for exchange 2010 on server26:

Add-WindowsFeature NET-Framework,RSAT-ADDS,Web-Server,Web-Basic-Auth,Web-Windows-Auth,Web-Metabase,Web-Net-Ext,Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console,WAS-Process-Model,RSAT-Web-Server,Web-ISAPI-Ext,Web-Digest-Auth,Web-Dyn-Compression,NET-HTTP-Activation,RPC-Over-HTTP-Proxy

Since there's an obvious permissions issue not sure these other issues below are directly related. Its as if it doesnt have sufficient permissions to talk to itself even though we are domain administrator (with local administrator having Exchange Trusted Subsystem permissions)

Can anybody help me?, I've just installed Vista RC1 but prior to install it
I've obtained a back up copy of all my mails & accounts in Outlook 2007 (beta
2 version).
To do so, I've exported all my personal folders to a .PST file, but when I
installed Vista RC1 & re-installed Office 2007 Beta 2, the back up file
couldn't be opened, read or imported. The massage I get is that I've not
enough authorization level to open the file, but I'm logged in
w/administrator rigths and the user used to create de back up & the new user
are the same.
Does anybody knows what is happening? my old mail file contains more than
2,000 messages and need urgently to open it.
Thanks

Is there a way for me to view users mailboxes using the Exchange Admin program? I have a couple of different mailbox issuses (different users with random issues).
1. User is not receiving any Internet mail (internal mail ok). Nothing appears in the main queues. Error message "Some messages couldn't be retrieved from teh server. This usually happens when the connection to the server is los due to server or network problems. If the problem persists, contact your administrator."
2. A couple of users receive duplicate email messages. No apparent pattern, other than it's only about 5 users experiencing the problem.
Any and all help will be welcomed!

When I click the Send/Receive option in Outlook 2000, I get two errors:

1. 2 messages couldn't be retrieved from the server. This usually happens
when the connection to the server is lost due to server or network problems.

2. Download error (account info, Error number 0x8007000e)

There is nothing wrong with the server connection on our work network. I
can send/receive everything else just fine.

W2k sp4 on a little desktop. ATT DSL Pro for many, many years.

Outlook 2k sp3 settings:
incoming - pop.att.yahoo.com
out(SMTP) - smtp.att.yahoo.com
inetab32.dll
MAPI 1.0 Service Providers for Outlook 9 IMEP
v. 4.40.46000

For a week or so, I can't receive O2k mail. Worked OK for 5+ years previous to
that. Tells me it cannot reach pop.att.yahoo.com, but I get replies when I
ping it. Browser-mail confirms lots of Email waiting.

With authentication, I get an unreadable flash-popup. Without I usually get
"Some msgs couldn't be retrieved from server ... usually server or net problems
.... contact admin."

Any ideas? Theres no real evidence of server or net problems.

Thx,

Hi

I have got some problems on two of my Windows 2008 servers.
Hardware: both are HP DL380 G5 with newest Firm- and Software.
Running Windows Server 2008 (full patched), AD, DC, DNS Server,
File- and Printserver, Trend Micro Virus Scanner.

Once a week, it seems that the network connections brakes down, although
users still can access shares, etc. Only printing is not possible. The
Symbol of the Trend Micro client looks like a broken
network connection.
I get different error messages in the eventlog like:
Error working group policy object. Name of the DC not found. (...I just
have the German version of the error messages!)
PrintSpooler: ...DNS name couldn't be retrieved!
and so on.

Only rebooting the server solves the problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much for your help.
