Outlook 2007 crashes on startup

Less than a day since some Office upgrades were applied, I'm now unable to
start Outlook as it gives "Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a
problem...". I've tried most workarounds (hiding .ost's, .pst's, creating a
new profile with no Mail access) but the problem persists.

I've seen other recent posts about similar crashes.

Just and FYI... I have been experiencing the good and bad of Outlook 2007
like everybody else, but generally have been very happy with the product and
the new features it adds. Recently, (being a good Microsoft drone) I loaded
Virtual Earth 3d and the Outlook Plug-In. Well, all the sudden Outlook
started failing on startup and would restart and fail and restart and
fail...and so on... I read all the threads and saw how plugins in general
(Adobe, BCM) were causing crashes. I removed the Virtual Earth Plugin and
SURE ENOUGH... Outlook is working just like it should and I am loving life
again, rather than cussing my PC and Microsoft in general. Thanks to all
those MVPs who said: "Hey dummy, remove your plug-in's... " The End....

Hi

On my old machine (with outlook express ) I installed outlook 2007 on it and
it imported all my mail from the express version.

Now I got a brand new windows 7 (64bits) machine and I installed office
professional 2007 on it. I copied the outlook 2007 pst file from my old
machine to the new one.

However when I start outlook it crashes (both in normal and safe mode).
I then modified the options to run it in windows XP mode.
This works BUT outlook does function properly:

- I created several email accounts but when I try to modify the one that is
the "default" I get an error message saying: 'the specified account was not
found. It might have been deleted'

- When I create a new message I do not have a "send" button. Even-though I
have several accounts setup.

At this point the program is completely unusable.
What can I do?
Help!!!

Thanks

When starting Outlook 2007 Beta 2 I get a message that the Contact Manager
has a problem. Then it goes into a loop asking if I want to start in safe
mode. If yes it crashes and asks to go into repair mode. After repair mode it
starts the whole loop over again. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I would be grateful for your help on the following.

Environment:
Outlook 2003
Vista
.Pst file size about 480 Meg
(The only environment change I can think is that I downloaded a new version of "Ad-Aware" for spyware detection. I have since disabled it from startup.)

Outlook 2003 is suddenly crashing on startup. It's as if it can't find the data for the Reading Pane, then crashes. For 5-10 seconds, you can see all the folders listed to the left and see the messages titles listed in the inbox, but the reading pane is blank. Then a crash occurs with no error message. Occasionally, I can fake things out for a couple minutes by typing alt-F while the program is starting. That gives me the file drop-down menu and lets me take keyboard control and fake out whatever process is getting ready to crash. I can then, click on other menu options and then click to the actual folders, then back to the inbox and the Reading Pane suddenly works... until it crashes.

I have run the PST repair utility and that has shown no errors.

I have removed the PST file and started with a clean PST file and the program works and will download and send email. It seems to imply the installation of Outlook 2003 works, but perhaps the .pst file has a problem that isn't detected.

I have then added my backup 480 Meg PST file as a secondary set of folders combined to my clean PST file and Outlook 2003 seems to operate OK if I am operating out of the clean/blank set of newly created folders. But when I click and navigate through the 480 Meg folders, all bets are off... it might let me navigate where I want, let me see the reading pane, etc... or it might crash.

I even hoped to uninstall Outlook 2003 to reinstall and try to "import" a new file, but when I attempt to uninstall I get the error message: "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and you can access it.

Any advice or how to repair the PST file through a difference mechanism than the repair utility or advice to diagnose what is happening on startup?

Thank you!

Hi Everyone,

I'm facing problem with my Outlook 2003 startup. Before this i was having outlook 2007 installed on my machine which due to some reasons I uninstalled and got back to Outlook 2003. I have unstalled 2007 via windows add/remove utility and also removed registry entries and installed 2003.

whenever i starts 2003 it gets freeze and windows 7 states message that a problem has occured and start in safe mode, it works fine in safe mode but problem persists  during normal startup

any help will be much appreciated--------Thanks in advance

We are experiencing a high volume of users that are having outlook 2007 crash on their computers. This seems to be a HUGE problem just recently, started within the last 2 weeks. All users that are having this happen seem to be using Windows 7 and the computer are 1 1/2 years old or newer. They are experiencing the crash whenever typing or sending an email message. We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling outlook, doing /cleanprofile, disabling all add-ins, and deleted the NK2 file and we are still having this issue. We have roughly 50 users that are having this happen to them about 10-15 times a day. Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

I have had outlook 2007 crash on me 3 times now. When I installed the BETA it
did not give me the option to remove Office 2003, so I do have both versions
on the machine. I know some forums have said this is a problem, but a
co-worker has both installed and he has not had any problems "yet". My
question is in regards to all the posts about removing certain COM Add-ins.
Most have said to remove a Adobe Add-in, and others have said to remove all
that did not come with office. The problem is how do I know which ones came
with office. Here are the ones in Outlook I have showing:

Acitve Applicartion Add-ins
Microsofr Exchange Outlook Add-in for Unified Messaging
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Colleague Import Add-in
Microsoft Outlook Mobile Service
Microsoft VBA for Outlook Addin
Windows Search Email Indexer

Inactive Application Addins
Microsoft Access Outlook Add-in for Data Collection and Publication

They all seem legit, any suggestions? Should I really remove Office 2003?

I am having an issue with Outlook 2007 crashing everytime I start the
program. I have it configured to connect to MS Exchange and it just hangs at
the "Microsoft Outlook" splash screen. I have already deleted my profile and
started again from scratch and unfortunately did not do the trick. So I
started outlook in safe mode and I was able to get into the program and check
email normally. I went a step deeper trying to determine what the actual
cause is and finally when I used the /noextensions switch that allowed me to
open Outlook.

My question is what extension is it that could be preventing outlook from
working correctly?

I have a 200MB .pst file that has been running just fine until yesterday. I
am able to start Outlook but when I attempt to get new email it crashes. I
have run scanpst dozens of times. Each time I get the crash and rerun it
there are errors found by scanpst so I click on repair and it says everything
is peachy. Of course when I restart Outlook after doing this it still
crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook and that didn't resolve
the crash issue. I need some help if anyone has any suggestions as I have all
sorts of mail hung at my ISP because I can't download it using Outlook to my
..pst.

Vista Home Premium is OS. Was using Office 2002. Had problems w/password
access to Outlook so installed Office 2007 OEM version using upgrade option.
Everything worked fine except for Outlook. Notice on startup was "Microsoft
Office Outlook has stopped working..." ran diagnostics on all the .pst files
and repaired hinky ones. Ran every diagnostic I could find with no change in
crashing. Finally I completely uninstalled anything associated with Office
and reinstalled the whole deal. This time I see all my inbox stuff (could
not see it before the reinstall) and appointments (now past due, of course)
for about 4 seconds or so then get "Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped
working..." once again. I have run the diagnostics again, verified I have
no add-ins that may interfere, checked my virus software (F Secure 2007) for
compatibility. Don't know what else to do?????? Any suggestions?

Recently, Outlook 2007 has been crashing when opened and auto send/receive is turned on. If I turn it off Outlook doesn't crash, but I cannot send/receive. I contacted Microsoft and they sent me a hotfix, however when attempting to extract the zip file I downloaded I get an error. What's a grandmother to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have windows vista business with sp1 in a domain, on my laptop. When I
configure outlook 2007 with my account on Exchange, every think Works fine.
But when I startup my laptop in another place, without a physical connection
to the domain the outlook hangs and donĀ“t startup any more. When I am in my

I only resolve the problem uninstalling the office and installing again.
Any ideas to solve this problem?

Thanks,

It is so bad I cannot search, Outlook 2007 crashes everytime I search!! Why
is there no fix???

Details: Running VISTA Ultimate, Office 2007 with BCM, MS Connector for Live
Hotmail integration, and a number of RSS feeds in Outlook.

Have tried: Different anti virus programs
Have tried: reducing the number of large PST files, now I only have one,
other than the Archive PST file. Archive PST file is 539,665kb; attached PST
file is 561,489kb.
Have tried repairing PST files using SCANPST.EXE, it has gotten worse.

What is teh answer? I have seen posts on reducing number of large PST files,
that SCANPST.EXE is broken and Microsoft is not bothering to fix it.

When I migrated from XP to the new VISTA machine, eveyrthig worked fine but
after a couple of crashes and scanning with SCNPST.EXE

My outlook has suddenly started crashing due on startup. It was working
fine till a couple of days back. I haven't installed anything related
to outlook except the normal update from Microsoft.
I am using Outlook 2003 on XP.

I tried the various solutions I could google in for but of no help.

Here is the list of things(found in some post) I have already tried
without any luck

- Reinstall Outlook
- Create a New Profile
- Tried running outlook in Safe Mode (the safe mode is also crashing
the same way as normal startup)
- Remove outcmd.dat
- Ran pstscan.exe on all my pst files.

The Outlook doesnt come up for more than 20 secs & goes off without any
message.
I tried to find for any logs of the error but couldnt find any. Nothing
was found in the Event Logs as well.

I have been battling this for 4 weeks.

Outlook crashes every single time I attempt to open calendar view. I am
using echange server account from work on both desktop and laptop. Both
started crashing after a series of specific actions on my part. One day I
decided to make my life easier, with help of my new Outlook 2007. On my
desktop I have generated several new appointments, marked them with multiple
categories. Marked some of those private, and generated a new view, where
private appointments are not shown. That is where the fun stopped. My
laptop (recall that I was working on desktop) had outlook running as well. I
have clicked on clanedar, and it crashed. When I exited desktop's calendar
and attmpted to re-enter again, outlook crashed. It continues to crash every
time on both machines. What gives?

Possible causes:
Private appointments?
multiple categories per appointment?
customized view?

The first two items would be stored on the server, which would explain why
laptop started crashing as well.

I have removed "private" using active sync and my mobile. Now working
through removing multiple categories as well.

Clearly this is a bug. Any ideas?

I have: repaired office, created a new profile, same results.
