Outlooks 2007 periodically hangs or stalls while typing a message

I have been trying to figure out what parameter might be responsible for
outlook periodically (as in every 10-15 seconds) hanging, or stalling while I
type a message - the display hangs, I wind up typing ahead, then I have to
wait for it to catch up to fix my typing errors, which is very irritating.
This does not happen anywhere else on this brand new DELL 640m high end XP
pro Office 2007 PC, only in Outlook. Is this an outlook bug or a parameter?
I have been turning off things like the Norton virus detectors and so forth,
trying to find a way to fix it. All the hardware and software diagnostics
say 'OK' and all the up0dates are applied to everything. Any ideas? Thanks!

Has anybody else had trouble with a COM Addin causing Outlook 2007 to hang or
perform slowly while typing in the message body of an e-mail? The problem
ocurrs intermittently and seems to go away if we turn off our COM Addin. It
appears to be something that OL2007 introduced and our addin is
exasperating....however our code does nothing that should interefere with
typing in a new email or reply email.

Our addin was written using VB6 and Outlook 2000. When I tried to run the
project in the VB IDE on a machine that has Outlook 2007 I was indundated
with various bogus errors about binary compatability and returns types and
arguement types in various public functions had been changed. I had to create
my own Type Enums and declare EVERY outlook constant I used and turn
EVERYTHING into objects and remove the reference to Outlook to get around the
problem. Has anyone run into this as well?

I just bought a new computer with Vista and Outlook 2007. I migrated an
Outlook 2003 .pst file that seemed to have gotten corrupted a few years back
and would often not close properly. However, it still worked reasonably fast
on my old machine.

However, on my new machine, Outlook 2007 seizes up on my while composing a
message. It will do this for up to 15 seconds at a time. Whenever it gets
done, I can resume typing for a while and then it does it AGAIN. Outlook
often says it's "not responding" and is not content to just slow itself down,
it hogs the CPU and slows everything else down.

I have used scanpst and it seems that every time I run it, it finds and
fixes problems. I have exported all my folders to individual .pst files,
created a new .pst data file, and re-imported all my folders one by one into
the new data file. Still no fix.

I've been considering buying some .pst repair utility, but these seem to be
specifically for recovering lost messages from a corrupt file. None of my
messages ever seem to be lost.

My .pst file is only 700MB. Actually, I'll bet it's much smaller, but I
haven't compacted it lately. Compacting did nothing to fix my problem.

Can anyone help? Is there any place I can send my .pst file to have it
fixed? Could importing it into Eudora and trashing Outlook work?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi, I'm working with someone who is upgrading from OE to outlook. In OE,
she has her contacts organized into folders so that when she clicks To: she
can browse to contacts in certain groups. I learned last week from Robert
Sparnaaij that I could indeed do something similar in Outlook. He suggested
using categories for contacts. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how
to do this. Wehn I try to import contacts from the OE .wab file, Outlook
2007 just puts the contacts into a contacts file, without any particular
organization.

My questions are as follows.
1. Is there a way to export/import contacts from particular subfolders in
the old .wab file and put them in folders or categories in Outlook 2007? In
other words, if I had a folder in OE contacts called In-laws, could I export
the In-laws folder only, and create an in-laws folder or category in Outlook
2007?

2. How do I create contact categories in Outlook 2007?

Thanks for all the great help!

Kevin

Is there a way in Outlook 2007 to set an expiry date for a message using
rules or some other simple operation?

The only way I know how to do it just now, is to right-click the message,
select 'Options',
tick the 'Expires after' box,
type or select the date,
click 'Close',
& click 'Yes' to confirm I want to save changes.

I like to use expiry dates for newsletters etc which I might want to read in
the near future, but I don't want to keep long-term, & I don't want to have
to create separate folders to set up auto-archive rules as I already have too
many folders.

Sorry about the length of the post,
Thanks in advance

Outlook 2007 always hangs when creating an email? Has anyone a simple
solution to this... thanks .. Rocket

Clean install Vista (Ultimate)
Clean install office 2007 ultimate
Imported existing *.pst
All data there available

Cannot create any address books.
Cannot create/add or place any entries into any address book.
Outlook 2007 contacts are all there.
When creating a message cannot locate any addresses to use.
Outlook shows no address books under File>Data File Management>Account
Settings>Address Books>

Listed name is "Outlook Address Book" and type is "MAPI"
There is no address book listed.

the text pointer disappears while I am typing a message in Outlook and the text I've typed stops appearing. VERY ANNOYING...

I am able to send a message without problem on Outlook but if I, or anyone
else, tries to type a message to send from my computer on webmail it will not
work. I get a red cross in the message pane and am at a loss to work out what
is blocking it. Any suggestions gratefully received. I am using windowes XP.
Thanks.

Hello,

Has anyone ever had problems with emails remaining in the Outbox? I have a
User that has a problem with Outlook 2007 on occasions. She would reply to a
message or add additional email accounts to an email, and press Send. The
email will remain in the Outbox. There is no error message; the email just
sits in the Outbox. After repeated attempts, she would restart the computer,
and delete the Outbound message, and then retry replying to a message and it
would work again.

Appreciate any guidance as to solving this issue?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm trying to migrate my COM add-in from Outlook 2003 to 2007 (both on
Windows XP), using VS 2005 Professional and VSTO 2005 SE.

The add-in was originally developed on a machine with Outlook 2003
installed, using the built in Office 2003 - Outlook Add-In template in
VS2005/VSTO.

For the migration, I recreated the entire solution on a machine with Outlook
2007, VS2005 and VSTO, using the built in Office 2007 - Outlook Add-In
template in VS2005/VSTO.

I located the program line that is causing the problem and created this very
simple test program:

-------->>>
Public Class OutlookAddIn1

Private Sub ThisAddIn_Startup( _
ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Startup

Application.COMAddIns.Item("OutlookAddIn1").Object = Me
End Sub

Private Sub ThisAddIn_Shutdown( _
ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Shutdown

End Sub

End Class
--------

Specified cast is not valid.

Can anyone assist me. I am on Office 2003. While in "Mail" I can see the list of emails refresh about every 5 seconds. While typing a message the typing freezes, I see an hourglass at the same 5 second intervals. Can anyone tell me how to stop this?

Thanks in advance...

I use Outlook 2007 on Vista.
After I have read a message, Outlook deletes it automatically when I close
the message after reading, most of the time but not all of the time. Am I
doing something wrong as I do not necessarily want to lose messages just
because I have read them once.

Outlook 2007 starts to open, then disappears. No error messages.

I recently did some "clean up" things using Glary Utilities, like registry
cleaner, duplicate file remover, registry defrag, C drive defrag.

I have 4 email addresses coming into Outlook. 3 are POP, one is exchange.

My other Office programs are working fine. It is strange that there isn't
an error message. I have done an Office diagnostics and Windows update.
