Cannot open your default e-mail folders.

Error message: Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file
C:Users(User)AppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.pst is in use and
cannot be accessed. Close any application that is using this file, and then
try again. You might need to restart your computer.

After re-boot, Outlook will work OK for a few hours. After that, it
defaults back to the same error. Any ideas.

Win 7 64 bit, Outlook 2007. Been running for years without problems. Yesterday (no changes to anything) got this message trying to open Outlook on PC1: "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if the condition persists." Using gmail. (No problems with PC2 (wireless)). PC1 (wired) will open Outlook in safe mode. Using Verizon FIOS. Was online with Verizon support for a long while. He says problem is with Outlook. Have tried everything I could find on the net. Tried a new profile, still get error. Tried Office repair, etc. On Tools/Accounts/ran repair = no problems, goes to successful completion on three gmail accounts. Have not made any changes, updates, etc. before this happened.Opened OK, the next time I tried to open got the error and I cannot fix it. Any help greatly appreciated.

I have Vista SP1 and Office 2007. My Outlook is set up to use my AOL email account. When I try to open Outlook, I get the message "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists."

Outlook had been working fine for several weeks. I changed a couple of settings a couple weeks ago, but Outlook continued working after that. Then it stopped about a week ago, and I have no idea why.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I installed outlook on a new gigabyte netbook .... everything was wonderful.
Then the user went home and for some reason couldn't open her outlook so she
decided to uninstall it. I reinstalled it now, but get the following message:

Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be
opened.

What can i do to fix this??

Exchange is 2003 and Outlook is 2007

When we tried to set up the Outlook on a new desktop for one particular
user, we got the following error.
"Cannot open your default e-mail folders. Microsoft exchange is not
available. Either there are network problems or the exchange computer is
down for maintenance."

The user has NO problem on his current desktop, and NO problem accessing
OWA.
The user got the same error when he tried to access the Outlook on Terminal
server as well.

We started troubleshooting and deleted user's profile on Terminal server as
well as that new desktop, but the problem is still there. We did not want to
delete the user profile on his current working desktop so no interruption to
him.

We eventually found out we can set up Outlook for this user if we logged in
with domain administrator's credential. It seems to do with permission so we
compare his security setting with other users in AD but found nothing
particular.

Any advise?
Thanks

Calvin

We are an Exchange 03 + Outlook 07 environment. The error, when user tried
to open Outlook program, was "Cannot open your default e-mail folders.
Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or
the Exchange computer is down for maintenance." Even though users could
still access emails via OWA, it gave me concerns because it's the 5th case
in past 2 months.

Re-creating a new Outlook profile, computer profile and Terminal server
profile has not fixed the issues. I played around and had to add users to
the "Exchange Recovery Administrator" group as the workaround to get users
connected again. My guessing is permission issue, but how come Exchange all
of sudden started to "drop" users out.

Please advise.

Thanks
Calvin

Scenario: Hi, I have below configuration of exchange 2010 server Setup:

1. Windows Domain Controller with Global Catalog on Windows Server 2008 which only for Windows 2008 Server Native.

Server Name: WDC2010

Domain: Blazex.Com

2. Hub/Client Access Server: It is installed on Windows Server 2008. As per Microsoft recommendation, I have just installed Windows Server 2008 and then join this computer to Blazex.com.

After that installed the Hub/Client Access Exchange role servers.

Server Name: HC2010.blazex.com (This is not a Addition Member server or ADC)

Role: Hub and Client Access Server.

3. Mailbox Server: It is installed on Windows Server 2008. As per Microsoft recommendation, I have just installed Windows Server 2008 and then join this computer to Blazex.com.

After that installed the Mailbox Exchange role servers.

Server Name: MBX2010.blazex.com (This is not a Addition Member server or ADC)

Role: Mailbox Server.

4. 2nd ¬*Mailbox Server: It is installed on Windows Server 2008. As per Microsoft recommendation, I have just installed Windows Server 2008 and then join this computer to Blazex.com.

After that installed the Mailbox Exchange role servers.

Server Name: 2MBX2010.blazex.com (This is not a Addition Member server or ADC)

Role: Mailbox Server.

5. Client Windows 7: It is installed on Windows 7 Ultimate Workstation. As per Microsoft recommendation, I have just installed Windows 7 and then join this computer to Blazex.com.

Workstation Name: WIN7.blazex.com

Role: Workstation

Error Description: I have installed everything correctly but when I tried to open the MS Outlook on Client Workstation (Win7) then I get the below error. Even though, If I open the mailbox of Administrator or Other users. Same error I am getting.

I don't know what I am missing but I think there is some configuration I need to do on Hub/Client Access Server (HC2010).

Here lot of person also asked the same question but I didn't see the answers.

But one think noticed on Hub/Client server, there are firewall enabled on this server which is by default as other server. When I tried to ping this server through mailbox server or Domain Controller I am not able to ping this server. But I am able to ping all other servers and client to each other. I disabled the firewall and tried to access the mailbox but I couldn't help. Firewall should be not a problem as other servers have enable this option and it should be enabled by default. This was just my suspicion.

I am trying to get the log error but there are not any error found on the Hub/Client server, work staion or Mailbox server.

Right now I am stuck here and don't know how to solve this.

Could you please help me on this?

Thanks and Regards

Just purchased a new HP Desktop with Windows 7, and purchased and downloaded Microsoft Office 2010.  Has tried to get into Outloo2010 and keep getting the error messeage:  "cannot open your default e-mail folders.  The information store could not be opened".  Since this a new computer there are no "old files" to get in the way.  Any suggestions?  I need help!

I just had to rebuild our Exchange 2003sp2 server.¬* It's running on Win2k3 R2 SP2...

The process of reconnecting all the Outlook 2007 clients involved creating new profiles, and worked fine with the defaults that auto-config set¬*except for the last 2 users I visited; both travel and¬*are using laptops.¬*
If they try to run in cached mode, they get the following error:
"Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object. ¬*See the folder contact or your system administrator."
Non-cached mode works just fine.

I thought it was an .ost problem, so I deleted the existing file.¬* It didn't help.
I looked¬*at the¬*active directory permissions outlined in¬*http://www.activedir.org/Articles/ta...ons-Issue.aspx¬*and everything looked fine.
Users are in the local admin group.
It is not limited to just these 2 users; a new user on a clean system experiences the same problem.
Outlook safe-mode does not bypass the issue.
Nothing shows up in logs if Outlook logging is enabled.
Nothing unusual shows up in the logs¬*after MSExchangeIS Mailbox logging is enabled at any logging level.
issue not tied to OS:¬* users affected¬*are running¬*Vista Business sp1.¬* Other Vista users not affected; test system was XP pro SP3.

I've seen 100 different questions on this topic and 100 different answers ... my Outlook (2007) has gone on strike against me. It won't load. The message I'm receiving is: Cannot open your default e-mail folders

I recently played with my blackberry sync settings and must have done something there to cause the problem. Vista is my OS.

I went into the black berry sync program to see if I could right a wrong and it won't let me access my email account settings.

Help

This is the error message that I just started receiving after having my computer powered down for a week. First time that I have ever seen such message:

"Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists."

I searched online and haven't found an adequate fix. I CAN open in safe mode. I am not really technically proficient so some hand holding is in order please.

I'm on Outlook 2007. Running XP Pro 64 bit. Thanks!

I am using Outlook 2007 trying to connect to Exchange 2007. I am just setting this up remotely. And I get this error. Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened. I have tried the RPC registry key, which I had to add and safe mode.

Hi all,

I just restarted my computer. Now i have the following error with outlook 2007 :

Cannot open your default e-mail folders the file C:Extended driveOutlook pst FilesOutlook.pst Cannot be opened

It happens immediately after i launch outlook. I am using Windows Server 2003.

How can I fix this error for oulook 2007 ?

PS : I have read the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244523 but the error message is different in this article. Also lot of articles in microsoft answers are for the error :

Error message: Cannot open your default email folders. Information store could not be opened

at http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...4-c7d3e99b528f

When I try to load MS Outlook I get the following message, and Outlook will not start up.

Cannot open your default e-mail folder. The file c:usersusernameAppdataLocalMicrosoftOutlook username_hotmail.ost is not an Outlook data file (.ost)

I can't even find this file????

Tried both Outlook 2007 and 2010. Same response... even after uninstalling and re-installing.

Please advise if anyone has helpful tips... I'm stuck.

Hi All

I hope someone can help because I'm getting nowhere fast at the moment.

I've setup Exchange 2010 everything seemed OK. OWA works fine. The problem I have is trying to connect an Outlook 2007 client. †Outlook gives the following message "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. †The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed."

I've tried outlook from two clients now and receive the same message. †Have I missed something on the exchange server?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Neil

office 2010, exchange 2003 sp3, win 7.

error:  Cannot open your default e-mail folders.  Your must connect to microsoft exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your outlook data file (.ost).

I have tried to make it "Always prompt for credentials" as it was suggested by another forum.

"Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file ....pst is not a personal folders file" message shows up. You hit okay and then it closes.  You cannot open anything up to try to fix it.

when opening outlook, i receive this error... "cannot open your default e-mail folders.  errors have been detected in the folder c:usersournameappdatalocalmicrosoftoutlooko utlook.pst".  i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling outlook - but no luck.  all my email is from hotmail, so it's not saved on my computer.  how can i fix so i can use outlook again?

Can someone HELP???
I have a vista laptop and xp desktop. I share the Outlook pst. file via my
home network. I cut and pasted the archive and outlook pst file to a sharing
file folder on my laptop but was not able to open it with Outlook. I moved
back to its' original folder and didn't not change anything else. Now, I
cannot access outlook at all from either computer. When Outlook launches I
get, "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. File access is denied. You
do not have the permission required to access the file
RAMOSDESKTOPCynthia-OutlookOutlook.pst." When I click OK Outlook closes
down so I can never get in to either delete the path or repair it or change
it. I believe whole heartedly that it is not the software but the pst file.
HP had me uninstall the software and as I expected it did not resolve the
issue. Does anyone have any insight to this issue? I figured the file got
corrupted but I don't know how to fix it nor do I know how to open outlook so
I can re-associate the file. HELP!!!!!

cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file C:................. is not
an offlive folder file

I installed Office 2007 on a new Vista machine and transferred my Office 2003
files from my old machine to my new machine. Now when I start up Outlook, It
displays the "configuring Outlook" window with "Migrating Account Settings"
highlighted. The error which appears is: "Cannot open your default e-mail
folders. The attempt to log onto Microsoft Exchange has failed." When I
press OK, Outlook closes.

How do I fix? Is there a tool outside of Outlook which will let me check /
fix my account information?

I have Microsoft Outlook installed on my computer. It was working just fine,
but now it's giving me an error message that says "can not open your default
e-mail folders. The information store can not be opened"

I am getting the same error message after reinstalling Windows XP and then
installing Office 2003. Prior to it I was using Office XP(2002). I have been
able to set up my email account using the Control Panel/Mail icon and connect
to the Exchange server because on clicking Check Name in the final step, it
underlined my username. But when I launch Outlook 2003, I get the error
message - "Unable to open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to
your Microsoft Exchange Server computer with the current profile before you
can synchronize your folders with your offline folder file." I click on OK
and Outlook 2003 closes.

Can you please give me a step-by-step solution? Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sadly, they only changed the probelm. I've
tried creating a new pst and renaming old ones. Now when I start
outlook, I
get an error that says "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to open
the
Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened." I got the same
message with pst's "Outlook", "Archive", and "outlook1". Any other ideas?
(I
aslo tried a repair/install from rhe disc. )

"Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote:

did you verify it's trying to open your pst? did you try renaming the
pst?
That error often means there is a problem with the pst and it should (but
doesn't always) create a new one when it can't find your pst.
