downloading .ics calendar files from a website

Hi,

I'm trying to offer the ability to download a .ics calendar
file from a webpage using Flash. When you click on the
link "download the outlook calendar file" in the Flash, it
opens a popup window to http://someserver.com/file.ics

If I put that there URL directly into a new Internet explorer
window, I get prompted "do you want to open or save this
file".

If, from Flash, I open a popup window with that same URL,
the popup opens just fine (it's not popup-blocked), but then
it disappears.

No suggestions please of what internet options to change, if
it doesn't work on what I already have then it's not going to
work for the people I want to offer this to.

I've tried opening the popup window to a redirector which
redirects window.location.href to that URL but that gives a
security warning "this website has been blocked from trying
to download a file to your computer".

Dear everyone,

I have a web service that sends out ICS-files to people's email-accounts on an Exchange server. The ICS-files are simply appointment items that go in people's calendars to indicate the periods of time they're on vacation after they've used a Silverlight application to book vacation.

The way I accomplish this is to construct the ICS-file using a StringBuilding in C#. I then make a ContentType of the string comprising the complete ICS-information as a new System.Net.Mime.ContentType("text/calendar"). This ContentType then gets added to the mailmessage as an AlternateView before the message is sent. It arrives in the recipient's email inbox as a calendar item with Accept-Tentative-Decline buttons in the top of the email.

My problem is that Outlook 2007 changes the settings in the ICS before it adds it to the recipient's calendar, and I cannot for the love of life figure out what the heck's wrong.

This is the ICS that the web service produces:

Obviously, Outlook 2007 has drastically changed my ICS before adding it to the calendar. The two major things that annoy me is that the appointment is now no longer an all-day-event, and it has changed the busystatis from Out of office (OOF) to BUSY. Why does it do that? Is my ICS somehow malformed, and outlook has repaired it for me, resulting in those changes?

What can I do to force Outlook to respect things like an explicitly stated busystatus?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I have 3 clients synched to my exchange server 2007 and by mistake I have
deleted all my entries in the Calendar! The only way for me to get this back
is to extract the Calendar information from my 4th client that has not been
online and synched to the server, and still has all the entries stored
locally!

Any tools to extract Calendar entries from a local ost-file?

Rgs,
/Kjell

Has anyone here figured a way to download all their mail from a Linux Web
hosting site? Normally we check our mail via squirrel mail but we can get
to it via POP.

Hello For the past couple of weeks I have been unable to print emails that
have come from some websites that I subscribe to. Today I am unable to print
any more than one page of emails that I send to friends.
I just tried to look at a PREVIEW of what I wanted to print and a message
came up that I can't preview a message in HTML. I have always been able to
print alll my messages whether they come from a website or not.
Could you tell me what is wrong.
Thanks
Pat Berry
PS I use Microsoft Outlook when I send and receive emails and use my
Optusnet address which is patriciaberry38@optusnet.com.au
I also updated Windows Live Messenger from MSN Messenger a few weeks ago and
now I have Windows Messenger and Windows Live Messenger coming up. Should
both come up. I can't find Windows Messenger in my list of programmes. It was
only on the TOOLBAR.

Dear Sir,

I have 3 terminal servers (1,2 and 3) with MS Outlook 2002 in my workplace.

Recently, I found that I was not able to open the Excel file from a few
senders within the workgroup using server number 2.

Whenever I click at the Excel file to open it, there is an error message
that reads :

“Can’t create file : GLA56.XLS. Right click the folder you want to create
the file in, and then click the properties on the shortcut menu to check your
permission for the folder”.

I do that think that the reason mention in the error message is the root
cause of this problem as there are many files that are able to be created in
that folder.

Surprisingly, I could open the Excel files from many other senders using
this server 2.

When I tried to open these problem files using server 1 and 3, there was no
problem at all.

I am very puzzle about this.

Could you help me to trouble shoot and fix this problem?

Thanks

Low

Hi:

I had a problem where I had to reinstall all the software on my system.

I am unable to access my MS Outlook contact or calendar files.  However, I have them synced to my blackberry.

Is it possible to restore the contacts TO my outlook FROM my blackberry?  If so, how?

Thanks,

Ed

Running Outlook 2007 having issues with updates of calendar files. We've got a number of .ics calendar files exported by users, into a specific folder on network. These .ics files containg calendar data from each user. The data on network updates according to settings in calendar publishing. Works fine. (we dont run Exchange...)

The problem is that when users try to subscribe to these files (and calendars, of course), the data dont get updated properly. It seems as if the data is read only once, when the file is opened/added. Tried both to add the .ics files as users calendars by only double clicking them in folder, and also using Account settings>Internet calendars>Add...

None of the methods give an automatic update of other users calendars. Clues, anyone?

Today I tried to add an event to my calendar from a website that I have used before. I got a message "file is not a valid Internet Calendar file. You cannot create subfolders in a mailbox for a web-based account. For more information , go tohttp://g.live.com/1OLC12URL/Create."

1) The file is an iCalendar file. It was from an event on meetup.com which I have used numerous times before without a problem.
2) the website listed above redirects me to http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx which does not address my problem.

Any suggestions what I can check to see why I can't add this event?

Pat

We have set up a user account in Outlook (Exchange server) that we use
as a drop box for files being sent to us from a variety of business
partners. Some of these files contain data that I need to access
across our network. I'm fairly familiar with using DCOM to call Office
applications across the system (we do it all the time in ExcelAccess) but the Outlook object model is completely new to me.

So can anyone offer a good starting point for this? Basically all I
have to do is log into that account, check for mail from particular
addresses on a particular date, and if they exist, download the
attached file to a network directory that is mounted as a drive
letter. From that point on I can open and process the file using
existing Excel methods.

Outlook doesn't have to be used for this, that's just the first thing
that popped into my mind. If there is some why to directly interact
with Exchange that would be just as good. I seem to recall there is
some sort of ODBC access in Exchange, but I believe that's only for
public forums?

Maury

p.s. Is anyone else having problems posting from the MS web site? The
pop-up editor doesn't seem to appear any more (yes, popup blocking is
off).

My husband gave me a CD disk that has e-mail files from an older Outlook
software. He would like to access those files without corrupting the disk (I
got a warning that the files may be corrupted if I tried to download them).
I'm very new to the Windows Vista and don't know where to find the
information to figure it out on my own. Can you help?

I notice that when I import a calendar item from a webpage or other source (a
VCS file), my Outlook ALWAYS advances both start and end times by 1 hour.
Now, I am sure that has something to do with summertime saving but I can't
figure our how to resolve it.
All help gratefully received.
Thank you

Have looked around a lot on the net and can't find a clear answer to
something I hope is simple. I'm the webmaster (FrontPage 2003) for a small
non-profit. They asked if there were any way to put an "Add to my Outlook
Calendar" link next to new events we post.

I was able to create an .ics (iCalendar) file and add that to the site, but
when I link to it, Firefox just opens it as text and IE just puts it in an
obscure folder (C:Documents and SettingsAll
UsersDocumentsiMacrosDownloads) so neither actually added it to Outlook.

I'm not loyal to doing this via an .ics file if there's a better way...what
I'm seeing out there just keep implying that that's the way to do it...but
without enough follow through for me to get it to work.

Someone on a blog said that it can be done via Outlook Online, which I'd
never heard of before, but I tried logging on to that and couldn't find any
help on it there.

Clearly, there must be a way, since i see it on sites, but this semi-novice
without a ton of technical training is stumped.

Info would be appreciated!!! Thanks so much!
