I am migrating from Domino 7.0.2 to Exchange 2007 using the Transporter Suite from Microsoft. The users mailbox migrates successfully 99% of the time. The problem is with the users contacts. When i migrate the names.nsf file over to the users Exchange account the contacts duplicate 50% of the time. Anyone had problems with this before? Is this a Lotus or Exchange issue? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a user whose contacts are duplicating automatically several hundred at
a time. This is not being initiated by the user. He does have outlook
snyc'ing with his Treo wirelessly through Verizon and he has installed Plaxo.

I stopped the sync'ing to the cell phone and put test contacts on the phone
and outlook and they did not sync up, yet hundreds of contacts duplicated.

I uninstalled the Plaxo toolbar and the contacts continue to duplicate.

He has gone from 700 contacts to over 3,000 fairly quickly

Any ideas where else to look

We are migrating from LotusDomino 7.0.2 to Exchange 2007. Some users contacts are duplicating in their Outlook 2007. We are using Microsoft Lotus Transporter Suite to migrate users. Any thoughts?

I have had a long-term problem with synchronization with three separate
machines using Outlook Connector (latest version). I have finally tracked it
down (I believe) to something that has not been visible (I've worked with
several Outlook support technicians and it has never been brought up). It
appears the Outlook keeps nicknames in a .nk2 file. These are not exported
to a contact .csv file. If I export, then delete all contacts, all machines,
plus the server show no contacts. When I import again (off line), the
nicknames are blank. When I go on-line the nicknames are filled in along
with multiple duplicates of my contacts. If I re-set my .nk2 file before
going on line, this does not happen. Has anyone had experience with this?
How can I re-set the .nk2 file (or equivalent) on the OC server? Obviously,
at least to me, just deleteing the contacts does not delete or reset the .nk2
file on my desktop and does not delete or reset the nickname file on the
server. I can tell for sure that nicknames (some created manually) are
available to my other machines through the OC server. Also, the duplicates
that are created in this scenario appear to be old versions of my contact
information (they are not exact duplicates). Where is that information
coming from? I can't find it on my machine. For my use of Outlook/Outlook
Connector this is a serious problem for quality control.

We recently had our Exchange server crash. There are a couple of users who
needs their mailboxes restored from a backup. After the restoration, they
are seeing double (as follows).

Click New
-> To:
Select the drop down under "Show names from the..."

In this list the users contacts folders are showing twice. The first one
generates an error when it is clicked but the second (duplicated) one shows
the list of contacts and works fine.

My question is; how do I remove the old (bad) contact folders from this list
if they are not showing up in that users Outlook/Contacts area?

I am administering a network which includes an exchange server 2003 and many
clients using MS-outlook 2003, there is a shared contacts group which is
owned by one user and reviewed by the others.
A user is using his PDA to synchronize this shared contacts group and other
folders while he is abroad.
the problem is sometimes I faced duplicates for some contacts in this group,
and i had to delete them everytime they r duplicated.
Is there any procedure or any utility to prevent any future duplicate.
any help would be appreciated.

[Besides the obvious comment regarding why as LATE as Outlook 2007 we
still can't satisfactorily resolve duplicates within the program..]

Reviewing your page http://www.slipstick.com/addins/contacts_dups.asp
regarding Outlook Duplicate Contact tools, I wanted to recommend the
_software_that_comes_with_business_card_scanner_Ca rdScan_www.cardscan.com._
Besides the business card scanner and character & field recognition
software features, the software that ships with the scanner has a very
good duplicates resolution tool.

Many of the tools listed on your page (above) have descriptions that
mention deleting duplicates - but not merging and resolving them.
Without this clarity, I hesitate to download any of the supplied
choices.

We are running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2. All clients are
running Microsoft Outlook 2003 SP2 in cached mode.

We have a user who has shared out a contact list on a resource
account. When copying a contact from this shared list to her personal
contacts folder, it will prompt her if the entry is a duplicate.
However, when copying from a personal contact list to the shared
contact list, it does * NOT * prompt, therefore, creates a duplcate
entry.

I have scoured the message boards and see there are several utilities
to remove duplicate entries, but does anyone know why it is not
prompting the user that this is a duplicate? As far as I know, they
are not using any custom forms.

Is there a program or add-on that will check for duplicates in contacts in
outlook 2003?

My company uses Outlook 2003 contacts as a sales database. I have noticed
that when 2 people access the same contact from different workstations and
make changes, an error message and duplicate contact is generated on exiting.
Is there any way to restrict access so only one person can access a contact
at a a time?

Thanks

When entering new info for contacts and saving it in outlook, sometimes a box
comes up saying that I have made changes and what do I want to do with those
changes. Other times, it just duplicates the contacts. My question is why is
that box not coming up all the time?

Thanks for help!

When I 'activesync' my palm 700Wx it duplicated all my contacts in both
outlook and on my pocket pc....how can i remove the duplicates...is there a
software program that will do this...I have over 1000 contacts that have been
duplicated.

Hi,
I have installed the Outlook 2007 and configured for using SharePoint
Contacts Library as a "Company wide" address list.

The system works but in the Sharepoint contacs library all contact are
duplicated by the system.

the infrastructure is Windows SBS 2008 (with all service pack intalled) and
Outlook 2007 with SP2 installed

Thanks for any suggestion

sometimes when i have contact information changes emailed to me, when i add
them to an existing contact, a box comes up asking me if i wan't to make the
changes to the contact that is already there. other times, the box does not
come up and it just duplicates the contact, thus giving me two contacts, one
with the old info and the other with the new. why would the change box come
up on some and not on all?

thanks for your help!

Hi there,
Is there a way to get rid of the original calendar and contacts in a
user Outllook 2000 mailbox since I copied the Contacts and Calendar from
another mailbox(user changed email/mailbox)?
Now I have calendar and calendar1 and contacts and contacts1 under the user
mailbox, I can delete calendar1 but not the original calendar.
Thank you, Calin

When I am sending messages and use the address book on some of the contacts
duplicates appear. They are not in the book as duplicates if you check. How
can I have it show only one when I am sending messages?

I have 2 email accounts. The first is a business account (POP3) and the
second is a personal account (gmail). Both are set up in my Outlook 2007.
The problems that I am experiencing are that I now have (2) calendars and (2)
contact lists. The biggest problem is when I sync my Blackberry, some
information is transfered and some is not. This presents a huge problem when
I create new appointments on either the handheld or desktop and they don't
sync properly leaving me with lost appointments and/or contacts when I sync
them together. Is there anyway to consolidate them so that both the handheld
and laptop are looking in the right locations and placing information on (1)
calender and in (1) address book???

Hi - we are using Outlook 2010/Windows 7. In the Reading Pane of the Inbox, when you hover over the name of the sender, an image appears with a "View more options..." icon. One of the options allows you to "Look up Outlook Contact". For one of my users, when they make that selection, the contact card opens, but only displays the name and email address for the contact. Nothing else on the contact card appears. My user does not have the contact duplicated in their Contacts folder. When Ichoose the option from a message, the contact card appears with all of the information (notes, addresses, phone #'s, email addresses). Does anyone know why Oultook would not display all of the information on a contact card when looked up through an email message?  Thanks for any suggestions.

Tammy

Using Outlook 2007 on Exchange, Department director delegates OL Contacts to Assistant with Editor permissions. Assistant is able to view, edit, delete contacts for director but Department directors contact list appears twice in the "People's Contacts" section of the Outlook Navigation Pane. When I right click on the name Delete "name" is greyed out and unavailable.

I am having issues when importing PST files that contain all emails,
contacts, and calendar information. I create an Outllook a newly named PST
file every month and keep them in a folder in My Documents. About every 4 to
6 months I reload my laptop becasue it gets loaded with presentations, etc.

When I reload Vista and all of my programs, I do it from a clean install
image I created about 6 months ago. Once the image is installed, I import my
last PST file into Outllok 2007 and I am back in business. However, when I
do this I end up with larges quantities of duplicates in my contacts and even
worse are the duplicates in my calendar. I also noticed that there are a
number of very old contacts that come back with the PST file. I now these
contacts have been deleted long before the PST was last updated.

My calendar experiences so many errors. I have many, many roccuring
appntments that get doubled and duplicated. Even the Outlook holidays get
duplicated. It is total mess.

1. How do I prevent all of the "OLD" contact information and contact
duplicates from being imported?

2. How do I stop my calendar from being trashed on the import?

3. How do I prevent calendar from doubling all of my appointments,
holidays, and scrambling my reoccuring entries?

Thanks for any assitance,

Mike

Hello!

I'm using below code in order to have Outlook adding email addresses to my
contacts folder.
So here's the problem: adresses are being added to my contacts however it's
inserting quotes before and after the address.
I don't know nothing about VBA, but analysing the code I deleted the Chr(34)
from the code and this problem was solved, however another problem
was raised: now all my contacts are being duplicated.
Do you know how to fix that? I mean, delete the quotes and don't have the
contacts duplicated?

Thanks a lot,

Gustavo

The code:

Sub AddRecipToContacts(objMail As Outlook.MailItem)
Dim strFind As String
Dim strAddress As String
Dim objNS As Outlook.NameSpace
Dim colContacts As Outlook.Items
Dim objContact As Outlook.ContactItem
Dim objRecip As Outlook.Recipient
Dim i As Integer
On Error Resume Next

' get Contacts folder and its Items collection
Set objNS = Application.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set colContacts = _
objNS.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts).Items

' process message recipients
For Each objRecip In objMail.Recipients

' check to see if the recip is already in Contacts
strAddress = AddQuote(objRecip.Address)
For i = 1 To 3
strFind = "[Email" & i & "Address] = " & _
strAddress
Set objContact = colContacts.Find(strFind)
If Not objContact Is Nothing Then
Exit For
End If
Next

' if not, add it
If objContact Is Nothing Then
Set objContact = _
Application.CreateItem(olContactItem)
With objContact
.FullName = objRecip.Name
.Email1Address = strAddress
.Save
End With
End If
Set objContact = Nothing
Next

Set objNS = Nothing
Set objContact = Nothing
Set colContacts = Nothing
End Sub

Function AddQuote(MyText) As String
AddQuote = Chr(34) & MyText & Chr(34)
End Function

I don't know what to do.

I have to import contacts into BCM since I lost half my contacts. I don't
want to just drag them from contacts to BCM because I will end up with half
the contacts duplicates. So I exported the outlook file, then I went to
import into BCM but it shuts down rigth when I click on import/export.

Do you know what is causing this and how to fix it?
