Play a Sound when new message arrives

I have a mail folder that contains one specific kind of message. And a rule
that sends that specific mail message into that folder.
Question: is there a way to exclude that mail folder from the "Play a
Sound" when new mail arrives feature?

I'm using WinXPpro and OL2002
Thanks, Mark Flynn

Is there any way that Outlook 2007 can be configured to play a sound when I
get new email from my hotmail account? This is the only email address I use
through Outlook, so my Personal Folders aren't used. I've already checked the
box in the options to play a sound when new email arrives, but sadly it
doesn't.

I have Outlook Express 6 and my options are set to "Play sound when new
messages arrive." Unfortunately, when new messages arrive there is no sound!
My sound scheme is Windows Default and under Program events New Mail
Notification is selected.
I would appreciate any help to fix this problem.

Thank you in advance,

Hi all, I use MS Outlook 2003 , I try to enable Play a sound when messages
arrive, but still does not work, something preventing that, play sound box
has check mark and volume and speaker is ok, any idea. Thanks in advance.

But more specifically how to play a particular sound eg Joanna Lumley saying
You've got post or somesuch file on receipt of new OE message?
Thanks

I have outlook 2003 on XP. I set the email options to show a notification
message when new messages arrive but it does not work.

I just got a new computer with Windows 7 and Office 2010.

I'm setting up Outlook and can not get the new mail sound to work.

I have gone to control panel (with outlook closed) and selected a wav file, apply and ok.

I've also gone in Outlook to file, options, mail and set play a sound when new message arrives..........and still no sound.

I also have New Mail Desktop alert checked and this does not happen either...I have the little yellow box for Outlook, but never see and envelope or anything to signal that I have new mail.

I've tried restarting the computer as well.

any suggestions? help?

Hi I would like to run a script when new mails arrives that does the
following:

Reads the subject line and calls a vbs script passing it the variables
that can in the subject.

E.g. Say the subject was: Outlook is cool

The script should call my vbs script passing it three parameters.
myscript.vbs %var1% %var2% %var3%

whe
var1 = Outlook
var2 = is
var 3 = cool

Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.

I have done all the Microsoft says about being notified, the Click E-mail
Options, and then click Advanced E-mail Options, Under When new items arrive
in my Inbox, select the Play a sound check box. And In Control Panel, click
Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices, and then click Sounds and Audio Devices.
Click the Sounds tab.
Under Program Events, under Windows, select New Mail Notification.
and nothing I don’t have a firewall either, and any other sound
notifications work great.

any help would be great

Is there a way I can configure Outlook, or make a rule, that plays a
notification when any new mail arrives?
Thanks

Some time ago I stopped hearing a sound when messages come in even though
"Play sound when new messages arrive" is checked. Any ideas of why?

I've just converted to Outlook as my mail client. I've set the option to
play a sound when new mail arrives, but nothing happens when it does arrive.
The Enveope option works and the Display a Message also works. Just no
sounds. Any ideas?

Hi there:

In Outlook Web Access 2003, the new mail notification pop up does not
appear. In Options, both "Display a notification message when new mail
arrives" and "Play a sound when new mail arrives" are checkmarked but I still
do not receive a notification. Have to rely on F5 to refresh.

Please advise.

Bob

Hello,
I am looking for a way to control the notification that takes place for OWA
and new mail items. Right now OWA polls the server by default every 2
minutes. And then some time usually another minute of two goes by and a
small popup shows next to the clock.

What I am interested in doing is controlling this message. For example can
I do any of the following:
1) Make the message stay up longer - or up all the time
2) Have the OWA Web page Refresh more often, so that the task highlights
shoing that there was a change, as other applicaitons do (notificiation).
3) Play a sound when the message arrives
4) Show an icon in the Takbar by the clock, like Outlook does, to show that
new mail has arrived.

Thanks
J

When IE is minimized we are not getting a popup when new messages arrive. In OWA 2003 we did.

Ideas?

I currently have a rule that directs messages sent to certain distribution
lists into a subfolder I've created in my Inbox. This is an IMAP account.
When the message arrives, though, before being sent to the designated folder
it is marked for deletion in my Inbox where it remains until it is purged. Is
there a way to avoid this, i.e. have the message go directly to the subfolder
without remaining in my Inbox and marked for deletion? Also, in creating the
rule I did not check the option to play a sound when the message arrives, but
it is playing a sound, regardless. Is there something else I need to do to
have these particular messages not make a sound on arrival? Thanks in advance!

i just got a new laptop...when i get new mail, i do not get a sound or
an icon in my systray. i've looked at the outlook settings, i tell it
to play a sound when new messages come in - nothing. i tried looking
in systray properties to see if it's always hidden - the new message
notification is not even an option in this list. i have XP, it's a
dell, and i had pccillin email scan (trend micro) on until now - still
does not notify me. all in all it's pretty frustrating. can anyone
help me force this to work somehow?

How do I play a unique sound for a specific incoming e-mail addressee?

I have sound turned on and am aware of all incoming e-mails in Outlook 2007,
but I would like a different (unique) sound for a specific e-mail addressee.

Is that possible?

I was able to do this for reminders. I know where to turn the e-mail sound
on, but can't find where to point to a custom .wav file.

I click the box under 'when new items arrive in my inbox' play a sound & it
works for that session but if I close outlook or restart my pc it unchecks
the box every time.

Any suggestions ?

I don't get a sound when my email arrives. I'm using Outlook Express 6. Any
one know how to fix?

A customer needs to play a sound for avery kind of message arriving,
including RSS.
As the user does not stand in front of the PC, they want to notify him with
a customer sound when a message arrives, regardless any other property of
the message.
They attempted to create a rule spacifying the .wav file to be played and
set it as the first rule, but the sound is played only for part of the
incoming messages, with no apparent reason.
Can anybody please suggest the right way to definie a rule to play a sound
for *every* incoming message?

I have seen a little utility on a UNIX system called LEDmail that blinks the
scroll-lock LED when new mail arrives.

Can Outlook be configured to do this? Is there an add-on that does this? I
have seen an entire email application that does, but it is unnecessary
overkill in this case!

Often when I am busy in the office I leave my PC for long periods and check
it every now and then to for new messages. This requires waiting for the PC
to spin up from sleep, enter password, etc. It would save me a little bit of
hassle each day to just be able to glance at the PC and if an LED is blinking
to check my email.
