We had a big power failure. Even though we have battery backup for some reason it didn't kick in soon enough. When the power was restored, no one could use Outlook.
I checked the server and Microsoft Information Store Database wasn't started. I tried a manual restart of the Information Store Database, but received some error messages. I did a restore from a backup tape before the power failure and rebuild the Information Store Database using the eseutil utility and started the Information Store service but the MSEXCIMC.EXE caused an Access Violation (Dr. Watson shows an Error 1067). Then I Removed and Created the IMC Connector and services started.
People started going to their inboxes in Outlook and some emails could not be opened. They received the error message: "Cannot open this item." I figured doing the restore from the previous night backup tape and the rebuild of the Information Store Database, we lost some of these mails. Some of these were outside e-mails and some internal e-mails that people kept in their Outlook Inbox or Sent Items other folders they created. We figured we should just delete the e-mails, but Outlook won't let us. We receive the "This item could not be deleted. It was either moved or already deleted, or access was denied" message. The unusable mail I speak of is mail that was once good internal/external mail, some with attachments, but some without, that can no longer be opened.
All I want to do now is get rid of these e-mails that we can't delete from Outlook. All emails are in the server not in PST files.
Today I try first to did a DS/IS Consistency Adjustment using Exchange Administrator and also I executed ESEUTIL /d to defragment the IS. The problem persist.
Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

Can anyone help in understanding why i am not able to view "read" messages in "inbox" via OWA? I have not made any changes to my options under the OWA. All messages are viewable thru outlook.

I must ahve set something without knowing it. When I reply to an email in my
inbox I want to save the original message in my inbox but it is being deleted
when I sent the reply. How do I fix it?

I have an email with photo attachment stuck in Outbox. When I try to delete it a messages says, "This item could not be deleted. It was either moved, or already deleted, or access was denied." What can I do?

Hi there,

We have done Exchange database defragmentation - no problem registered, but now clients cannot open SOME (not all) of their emails in their Inboxes. I have tried to download messages through POP3 - same result. System registers in Event log:

Error 0xfffff9bf occurred while rendering message 0001-0000000d1d67 for download for user user@domain.com.
For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

Event ID: 1023

Outlook just says that "Can't open an item" if I click on it. Subject, name email address and date/time are still visible in a list of items in Inbox. Any ideas (Except restoring from backup)?

Many thanks

Alexander

I'm using Outlook 2003 SP3 and to keep my exchange mailbox to a reasonable
size I have rules setup that move incoming email to folders held in PST
files. On occasions I delete these and they go into the PST files "Deleted
Items" folder.

When I close Outlook any emails that are in my Mailbox Deleted Items folder
are automatically deleted. However, any emails in the PSTs Deleted Items
folder are not deleted.

How can I automatically delete items in the PSTs Deleted Items folder.

Cheers

John

Hi. I am not sure if this forum is still active but I need help. Currently I have a C# console application that reads items in specific folders in Public Folders and write them out into MS SQL server. I am using MAPI to access the items in folders. I now need to move this application or process in a server but our server does not have Outlook so the MAPI way of accessing folders won't work. I've been searching high and low in the web for a solution to my issue and I have been reading about WebDAV. So, will an application using WebDAV to access Public Folders in Exchange server run on a machine without Outlook installed in it?

Can someone shed light on this?

Thank you.

Hi member!
I’ve some trouble in deleting mail in Inbox.
Some of my users  canot delete mail in their Inbox. If they directly delete on Outlook Epress, appear the follow message: “Some items could not be deleted. They were either moved or already deleted, or access was denied”. And if I directly delete in their Inbox on Server, appear follow message: “Cannot delete ‘filename’: Cannot find the specified path. make sure you specify the correct path”.
I don’t know why, and waiting reply from you as soon as possible. Thank more!

Hi,

I have a NT4 domain with Exchange 5.5

Recently I found out emails in my users' inboxes are disappearing.
I have been carrying out some testing myself today.

1) 25/09 9:00am : send some external email to my mailbox, eg. hotmail, gmail
... etc
2) Got all of the external testing emails in my inbox
3) 25/09 10:30pm : got around 20 emails in my inbox (some read, some unread)
4) 26/09 00:10am : all emails disappear and my inbox become empty
5) go into Tools -> Deleted items recovery and I found all of the missing
emails
with a deleted timestamp at 25/09 11:54pm

I am sure I didn't accidentally delete them and there are nothing strange in
event viewer ...
is it something wrong with my Exchange server ?

Anyone can help me ?
Thanks in advance

ps. I didn't use Personal Folder while I was performing the above test.

Steven

When I delete an e-mail that has been read, it does not appear in the Deleted
Folder. If the e-mail is "unread" it appears in the Deleted Folder. This
has been happening for only 2-3 days. I am not Auto-Archiving anything.

Thanks

I have disengaged every setting that I could find on my Blackberry and
Outlook but my calendar items outside of the last 3 weeks are being deleted?

Could it be a virus?

I would like to know why the email in store in the inbox automatically be
deleted after I closed and opened the outlook application again?
I had tried to find all the tools in the toolbar to undo the setting, but to
no avail.
I want to keep the email in the inbox whenever I close and open the outlook
again. how can I be able to it? can you help me on this?

Hi,

I thought this problem was so specific it would be easy to find the problem and fix it, but it's eluded me so far.

One of our users has a problem where any UNREAD item in the INBOX takes 2-4 minutes to open up, regardless of size.  Once it is no longer unread, it opens in less than a second.  If I right-click and "mark unread", it again takes 2+ minutes to mark it as unread, and it takes 2-4 minutes to open again.  This can be repeated ad nauseum.

If I move all the mail to a temporary folder (that takes ages) then, once there, the messages all open and close quickly whether read or unread.  Once moved back to the inbox, the problem returns.

I can log onto another PC as this user and see the same problem - thus an Exchange server side issue, not client?  Besides, Windows task manager on the local PC shows no obvious local  bottlenecks whilst the problem is occurring. I've tried monitoring the Exchange server but got no clear evidence.

We have McAfee on both the server and client but I can't see any excessive activity.  I've removed McAfee from the client and it makes no difference.

The user had installed some (relatively simple, mobile phone) software shortly beforehand, but (a) other users have this and it causes no problems and (b) it's been removed from the client and the problem remains.  I suspect this is not the problem.

It's Exchange 5.5 and Outlook 2002 SP3.

Any help or pointers appreciated!

Hi,

unread", it again takes 2+ minutes to mark it as unread, and it takes
2-4 minutes to open again. This can be repeated ad nauseum.

If I move all the mail to a different folder (that itself takes ages)
then, once there, the messages all open and close quickly whether read
or unread. Once moved back to the inbox, the problem returns.

If the Inbox is emptied, a single new message added to it will exhibit
the symptoms.

I can log onto another PC as this user and see the same problem - thus
an Exchange server side issue, not client? Besides, Windows task

Instant Messenger is not enabled in Outlook - that seems to have caused
other people simialr problems, according to this group.

Retention can be set by the administrator, that would delete email past a
certain age. At the bottom of the AutoArchive properties dialogue, you can
see if retention is configured.

How can I get Outlook to stop showing deleted items in the Inbox?

How can I get Outlook to stop showing deleted items in the Inbox?

After deleting items in the Inbox, how to jump to the "next item" and not to
the "prio item"?
Thanks.
