One of our users has a problem where any UNREAD item in the INBOX takes
2-4 minutes to open up, regardless of size. Once it is no longer
unread, it opens in less than a second. If I right-click and "mark
unread", it again takes 2+ minutes to mark it as unread, and it takes
2-4 minutes to open again. This can be repeated ad nauseum.
If I move all the mail to a different folder (that
itself takes ages)
then, once there, the messages all open and close quickly whether read
or unread. Once moved back to the inbox, the problem returns.
If the Inbox is emptied, a single new message added
to it will exhibit
I can log onto another PC as this user and see the same problem - thus
an Exchange server side issue, not client? Besides, Windows task
manager on the local PC shows no obvious local bottlenecks whilst the
problem is occurring. I've tried monitoring the Exchange server but got
no clear evidence.
We have McAfee on both the server and client but I can't see any
excessive activity. I've removed McAfee from the client and it makes
Instant Messenger is not enabled in Outlook - that seems to have caused
other people simialr problems, according to this group.
The user had installed some (relatively simple, mobile
shortly beforehand, but (a) other users have this and it causes no
problems and (b) it's been removed from the client and the problem
remains. I suspect this is not the problem.
It's Exchange 5.5 and Outlook 2002 SP3.
I thought this
problem was so specific it would be easy to find the
problem and fix it, but it's eluded me so far. Any help or pointers
