*.oab files missing

I'm in cached mode and every time I sync I get "Microsoft Exchange offline
address book 0X8004010F" error in outlook sync logs. Checking address list
properties, the current server is set to one of the domain controllers which
is also a global catalog server. In cached mode this should be set to the
local outlook file location ex. "C:Documents and SettingsLocal
SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook" but it's not. Also *.oab files
are missing.

I've also tried rebuilding offline address book on the exchange server
without success. I created new profiles without success. Outlook will simply
not point to the local offline addess book location.

After installing SP2 on Exchange 2003 successfully and allowing the evening to replicate the OAB at 5 am.
The next thing we did was to startup Outlook 2003 SP2 and triugger a Full Detail download of OAB.  Hopefully version 4.0 with compression but we do not see any size reduction.  We deleted the OAB files and still and redownlaoded and still no change.  We rebuilt the OAB in Exchange 2003 and still no go.  IDEAS?????????

I'm running Outlook 2003 SP2, XP

I recently went to an outside Exchange hosting service. The profile that we
initially created for the primary mailbox seems to have become corrupted
during setup (old settings that were wrong were left over from a previous
service who screwed things up, and we noticed and removed their mistakes
gradually while setting up this new profile). Outlook has since been prone to
freezing, especially on launch.

To try to solve the issue, we decided to remove the profile and create a new
one. I want it to have the same name -- and I want the OST file to have the
same name. I also like to do things cleanly, and thus decided to remove the
current one first and install a new one fresh rather than just create a
second one (and doing that lets me stay with the same name -- which I realize
may at the same time complicate things a tiny bit).

In talking with the hosting company's tech support, we agreed this was a
good plan. They said that after I removed the Profile, I could move the
remaining OST file elsewhere and then start the profile creation procedure
from scratch.

So, I began to do just that. With Outlook closed (of course), I went into
Settings -- Control Panel -- Mail -- Profiles, and removed the Exchange host
profile.

But then when I went into the folder that has the Outlook files, I realized
that there are not only the PST, LOG, and BAK files with that profile's name,
but there are also six OAB files that are related to it. And I don't know
what to do with those!

They're all only 1KB except for one that's 27 KB. They're also all dated
five days ago. I use Outlook regularly and it syncs every few minutes. The
hosting company has repeatedly told me that the Global Address Book syncs
between their server and my local machine once every night in the middle of
the night (not that I've necessarily had my Outlook left open all night for
any of the past few nights).

Now I'm concerned. I cannot risk corrupting things further, with a business
to run.

Do I just move those six OAB files elsewhere, along with the three main
files that are associated with the recently deleted profile name, and then
just go create a new profile (and give it the same name)? Is it just as
simple as that? Or does that risk losing some contact info or, worse, causing
corruption?

Or, should I leave all the files untouched in the Outlook folder for now and
create a new profile with the same name, and associate it to the existing
files (assuming that can be done)? Then switch to "uncached" mode to make the
OAB files no longer an issue? (I have no idea if I'm on the right track here
so please bear with me.) And then do what I intended from the outset: remove
profile, move all the associated files out of the way, and start fresh with a
new profile?

What's the safest and cleanest way to proceed at this point?

Note that all I've done so far is to remove the profile in Mail -- Profiles,
and to open Outlook in POP mode ("Outlook") just to go into Help -- About to
confirm it's SP2.

THANKS!!

Thanks!

I have an exchange 2010 sp1 server here that i am using windows backup to backup. I restored a copy of the database from a few days ago and was able to run eseutil /r... with no problem. I then restored 2 from a few weeks back, ran the recovery and on both got the error, i then restored the backup that worked and that also failed on the recovery.

Operation terminated with error -528 (JET_errMissingLogFile, Current log file missing)

based on /mh i have the log files it wants and based on /ml the log files are all good.

Specifically for one of the sets /mh tells me this about the log file needed.

Log Required: 38805-38805 (0x09795-0x09795)

but an error is thrown in the event log that eseutil is looking for A0D1 and i have no idea why, it seems like the same log file is being looked at for all the restored i tried.

Clearly there is something im not understanding about eseutil, Anyone have any idea what i'm missing?

thanks, tim

OK I've been following the article "Shared Hosting with Exchange 2003 Part 2". All works pretty well except for when I download the offline address book in Outlook 2003. The problem is that I seem to download the complete address list (Default Global Address List) instead of just the cut down version I have created. Let me explain.

I log onto an machine with Outlook 2003 SP2 and open it in NON cached mode (I don't have the tick box turned on in the account properties section).
I open the address list and I see the address list I am expecting. I can only see the objects that are supposed to appear the (same as if I do a preview in system manager).

Next I close outlook and change the properties to open it in cached mode. Before I open Outlook I make sure my %USERPROFILE%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook directory is empty.
I open outlook and checkout the address list, once again it appears as I expect however it hasn't downloaded the OAB yet.
Then I click the pull down menu Tools - Send/Receive - Download Address Book and then select to do a full details download. Once it has finished downloading I then go and look at the address book and find that I now appear to have a copy of the "Default Global Address List" (OR every exchange object in the organisation).

OK so in System manager I confirm that the offline address list that I created contains only one object; this is the exact custom global address list that I can correctly see when I open Outlook in NON-cached mode. I can also do a rebuild of the offline address list and then go and check in outlook again (delete all my local *.oab files) and the same problem occurs.

So I am under the asumption that my permissions are not correct and that I am downloading the wrong offline address book. In system manager I did the following:
Expanded Public Folders, right clicked public folders and selected view - system folders.
I then expanded the offline address book folder and then expanded my offline address book that I have created. I then proceed to (in the left pane) right click on each OAB Version xxx folder and select delete.
I then go back to my XP machine. Before opening outlook I delete all the *.oab files. I then open outlook.
Immediately I checkout the address list, once again it appears as I expect however it hasn't downloaded the OAB yet.
Then I click the pull down menu Tools - Send/Receive - Download Address Book and then select to do a full details download. The Send/Receive process fails with the error 0x8004010F, An object could not be found.

I would expect this error to appear; what I am confirming here is that I am actually downloading the correct OAB. So this is why I am confused.

Why is my OAB not as it should be; why does it appear like a full global address list? Is there a way to view the contents of the OAB from the server in a meaningful way? Any help here would be appreciated, I have followed the article to the best of my ability however maybe I am missing a critical step???

Hi!

I have one exchange server 2003 sp2 with some PF problems. The PF store is missing since 4 days ago, so the store has been dismountad. I was informed about it this morning. I checked the backup and the last PF backup was 2 weeks ago.  When i restore and try to mount the PF database i get the message that there is a gap in lthe og files ( wich i knew would happen )

Tried different eseutil commands and read on technet. Is the only option a eseutil /p when i have inconsistent logfiles? The database is in a dirty shutdown mode.

Why can´t people learn to check the backup software :(

Any ideas?

Due to a virus checker, a single infected "E00000333.log" file has been
deleted from my Exchange 2003 server (the C.exchsrvrmdbdata - directory).

The Exchange server operates as usual, and I had no problems using NTBackup
to backup the information store (the backup ended with no errors in the
backup log).

However the Exchange Server 2003 has only deleted "E*.log" files up to the
number of the single missing infected file, - all later E.log files are
still visible in the mdbdata directory.

Do you have any idea how I can solve this problem? - Unfortunately the
infected file itself is no longer available, nor is it present on any
backups tapes made prior to the deletion of the file so restoring the file
to proceed, is not an option.

Thank you for any ideas...

Regards

Erik

Our OAB is missing.

It is not visible in Public Folder Root nor in Offline Address List.

THE PROBLEM is: when I try to create new Offline Address List.

(Offline Address List > NEW > Offline Address List.)

The dialog appears but the "Offline Address List server" is grey and when I
click

browse nothing happens!

I can see the OAL objects through ADSI Edit.

- OAB Version 2

- Offline Address Book - /o=CADS/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline
Address List

- Offline Address Book - First Administrative Group

However, when I try to assign OAL via the properties of any Mailbox Store.

When I click Browse, i get: there is no such object in AD

I tried resetting System Folders Q275171 with no luck

-----------

...so is there a way of resetting, recreating this to the fresh (after
install) condition.

As we do not use Public folders for users, there are no user data to lose.

Or, is there a way of creating NEW Offline Address List manually (ADSI
EDIT...) ??

Can somebody help me out with this or is it a million dollar question :o(,
our users are kinda nervous with their empty Address Lists

Thanx for any hint..

Hello all-

I am somewhat stuck on an OAB issue. Our users are unable to download the offline address book. They get the error 'operation failed an object cannot be found'. But it works for some users in different sites. So I created a new OAB and added that to a mailbox store that didnt have the under the client settings for that mailbox store. it worked like a charm for 1 user that resided on that mailbox store. Its a SG with a single user. However when I tried to move another user there....all I get for that user is errors when trying to download the offline address book. With the user that worked I get all the options to download GAL..All Rooms..All Contacts...etc.

And I get this in event log saying that there is no public folder server..but that server itself is a public folder server... Am I missing something? And how do I get to the logs generated by the OALGen.

Also if it is missing entries does that mean the OAB did not download properly?

Description:
OALGen is configured to generate version 4 offline address book (OAB) files for OAB '/o=E2K7/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=e2k7 oab' and publish the version 4 files to public folders, but there is no public folder server available. OAB version 4 will be generated, but will not be published to a public folder at this time. Please ensure that a public folder server with a replica of the OAB system folder is online and mounted, or disable publishing OAB version 4 to public folders.

Hi!

I have followed technet instructions for creating the OAB, ensuring the OAB was setup properly according to MS TechNet... I verified permissions on the OAB folder... also verified that the OAB site exists as a Virtual Directory... however the directory remains empty. I have looked everywhere it seems... and have posted my logs below.

I have also Removed the OAB and recreated the OAB... so I am at a loss of what else to do.

I know the logs claim permissions or Disk size problems... yet the permissions check out OK, and I have over 135gb free on the system drive where the ExchangeOAB folder is located.

I also followed an article I found on here, and verified the same settings, but didn't get the same happy result:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/Q_23233439.html

I have verified that on each of the (4) Mailbox stores, this particular OAB is listed as the Default OAB...

I am noticing this however;

In the event logs, I see the error:
OALGen detected that the file 'CLUSTERSERVERNAME1ExchangeOAB95d25537-6d1b-4aee-854b-cc5fbe5326588c398cc6-b043-4a0f-8878-43e0763402cb-data-1.lzx' is corrupted or missing.

Yet, this is the "shared" path when I look at the folder properties:
CLUSTERNAMEExchangeOAB

However, when I look at the "Share Name" for this folder, it is Shared as the cluster name, not the individual Cluster Server name... also, when I try to access it by the individual server name UNC path, it of course fails.

Is this correct? How can I fix this?

Yet, still I get the following errors on my Exchange Server (Logging is set to Medium):

We recently purchased a new server with Exchange 2007.   We imported the mailboxs from SBS 2003. THe instalation went fine except for a couple of mail boxes that did not come over properly so we deleted those and created new mail boxes.
THe address list would not show up in Servers  and when we ran the commands to show the public folders our Exchange Store shut down.  Now when we go into any of the Organization and Mailbox we get the following message.  (There are no files in our OAB directory.)

Hello Experts,

I wonder if it's possible to migrate cached global address book from Exchange 2003 on PC with Windows XP and Outlook 2003 to an stand-alone PC with Vista and Outlook 2007. So recreation of a new OST file is not possible. Is there a way .OAB & .OST files can be migrated to new PC?
I have copied the files (one OST and six OAB) to Outlook folder ...AppDataLocalMicrosoftoutlook but they are not recognized by Outlook 2007.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I've got a strange issue regarding OAB v4 distribution from servers to clients.

Situation:
We have a global multi-site Exchange 2003 SP2 network.  The OAB generation process works fine, and the replication from the server making the OAB to the other servers/sites is working fine.  I have verified this using OABinteg and Exchange diagnostics.  Clients are Outlook 2003 SP2 (MAPI).

Problem:
Servers outside of the site where the OAB gen process occurs are recieving the updated OAB files via replication but seem "stuck" on giving out an older sequence number of the files.  Using OABinteg (test oabfldcheck /v:2) I can see the recent OAB v4 files on these servers.  Everthing matches up between the server the makes and sends out the OAB and the other servers - GUID is good, sequence number is matched, etc.  However, as I stated, the problem is the server keeps giving the files from an old sequence number (from almost one month ago...) to the clients.  This does not happen within the site where the AOB files are generated (6 servers there, all give out the most up to date sequence).

In short, quite a few of our Exchange servers (but not all) are downloading "old" versions of the OAB v4 files to Outlook clients, despite the fact that the updated OAB files actualy exist on the server.  The Outlook client's App log shows the server notifiying them of the old sequence number and then giving them the old files.  Does not matter whether it's a differential download, full download, new profile, etc.

Anyone ever seen something like this?  I've cranked up Public Folder replication diagnostics on the receiving servers and can see no issues and, like I wrote above, ESM and OABinteg shows the up to date files on all the servers.  It's just that many of the servers will not give the most recent OAB files to the clients.  Somehow Exchange has the updated OAB data but seems to not recognize that it does...

Thanks ahead for any insight on this.
