I was working in Outlook, when suddenly everything I typed came up as though
the shift key were stuck. I check several times, and I can see that both
shift keys are just fine. It is not the "Stickey keys" function. And hitting
the shift key does not cause it to resolve. I have to reboot entirely to fix
the issue. This has since occured several times. Each time as I was typing an
email.

Any ideas on what this could be?

I have two windows open but one is minimized, I try to type something, like
an email in the second window...I press the shift key to capitalize a letter
and the other window automatically pops up. How do I stop this from
happening?

Thank you.

I am using a Dell Latitude D620 laptop with XP Pro. Randomly throughout the
day the shift key just locks up even though it
is not even being pressed down all the time. I am unable to release the
shift key from this state even though it is not pressed
down. This affects all applications that uses the shift key - Excel tries to
select a block of cells instead of a single cell and in
Explorer when you press on 1 file/folder, it selects every thing from the
1st file/folder in the list.

The laptop is brand new and is completely clean. There are no spillages so I
can't see that its a hardware issue, well not yet anyway

What would cause this and is there a quick way to release it?

Hi,

I have user that was in Outlook and press down the shift key to long
thinking and an message came up and he click OK, (he said the message was
something like this feature will not be available) now his keyboard will not
work with only Outlook. How can I get the keyboard to work again for him?

When composing e-mail I cannot get a question mark without using "insert"
function.

I get an acute cap E when i use the shift key and question mark above
forward slash??

Hi!

I have a pretty annoying problem with Outlook 2007 SP1. When I write
some text and directly tries to select the text I've written with the
shift and arrow key it will not select the text. I can easily
reproduce the error by doing the following steps:

1. Open a new mail
2. Tab down to the text area
3. Write "hello"
4. Hit Shift+Left Arrow

The expected result would be to select the "o" in the written text,
but the actual result is that the letter is not selected. It is the
same problem with Ctrl+Shift+Left or Shift+Home.

I run it on Windows Vista x64 SP1. When I try the same thing in
notepad or word it will not appear. It will neither appear on my
colleague's Windows Vista x86 machine. I've tried to change format
between "Plain text", "Html" and "Rich text", but it is the same
problem.

It's pretty annoying to not be able to write a mail efficiently. Does
anybody else have this problem? Is it known? How do I solve it?

Thanks
Christian

Every now and then, the following keys tshcv become non-responsive. They only
work with while holding down the shift key. If I engage the CAPS lock, they
still do not work. This is not hardware related because other members in my
department experience the same thing. We're running WindowsXP,
SP2...Office2K3, SP2. I primarily experience this issue when composing a new
not in Outlook. If I open Notepad, the keys work just fine...as well as
typing this question for you to read! Does anyone know why this is? Thanks in
advance!

Noticed a funny behavior - is this a known issue; does anybody else have this
issue?

Any inbox (imap, exchange) you can shift+delete a message to permanently
delete a message (skip the deleted items folder).

I typically hold down shift key and use the delete key or sometimes the
delete X in the toolbar.

The next message will then show in the preview window after deleting a
message, which it should. And as long as you are holding shift down, you can
use a delete function again, it will perma-delete that message. However, in
Outlook 2007, the next message does not show up in the preview window. It
did in Outlook 2003.

The next message (which would be the 3rd after deleting the first 2) will
not show until you release the shift key.

Any ideas on a fix?

Thanks!

While typing an e-mail in the middle of things a box appeared about holding
the shift key down to long caused the filter key "something" to kick on. It
then locked my keys and I cannot use my keys to type or do anything in
Outlook 2007.

Hi there. I have used outlook for several years without a problem. But this
week, every time I am writing a new email if I need a special character or I
use Ctrl+Shift to change language input it stops responding. Please help!!!

Hi Guys,

I'm new with Exchange.

Just want to ask how the Deleted Items Work.

Our Exchange Policy is to hold Deleted Items up to 15days.

I have deleted email using the Shift Key

those two emails are not visible on my Recover Email window.

Thanks in Advance, I tried to search but I can't find similar thread.

Thanks

Emman

Using Outlook 2003 on a fileserver. For a single user, all e mail messages
and replies are composed in all capital letters. Using the Shift key or Caps
lock key has no influence. Have tried going into Tools..Options..mail
format...Stationery & fonts...fonts to make changes also.

I have a user running outlook 2000 sp3. They were using just outlook as
their email editor. They recently changed their editor to be word. They got
an odd side effect. When attaching files to an email they used to be able to
use the control and shift keys to select multiple files to attach to the same
email. Now that Word is the editor, it only allows them to select one file
at a time. The shift and control keys to not work as they used to.

I switched back to the regular editor and was able to use control and shift
for multiple files again, but when i swichted back to word, I had the same
problem again.

TIA

Wow, and all that is easier than just highlighting your message and clicking
"no" to "Check Remainder?"

Interesting..... very interesting....

How to delete emails from inbox in bulk rather then holding down shift key
and click page after page.
Is there a method such as "select all"?

Thanks
Chad

Hi All,
After using Outlook for years, I've gotten in the habit of just leaving
the Folder List open, and navigating the various folders from there. I have
quite a few folders, and buttons are just too cumbersome.

I use rules to send some e-mails to my 'Junk E-mail' folder. The
problem is that sometimes I have the focus in the folder list pane when I
delete an e-mail from that folder, and the folder disappears.

Okay, to be sure, deleting things so quickly that I don't notice that
before I do it might be a bad thing. Being in the habit of holding down the
shift key when I delete things might be even worse. The sad fact is that I
do both of these things though, and sometimes lose my 'Junk E-mail' folder.

Is there a way to make this folder delete (idiot) proof?

I've installed Office 2003 with Outlook on the Vista RC1 build. Try as
I might I can't get any settings to stick. I've tried running in
compatibility mode but nothing changes.
Problems include opening Outlook: I have Outlook full-sized, not
maximized, open typically to the Folder list. I can't get this setting
to stick. I've re-sized 'til I'm blue in the face, clicked on either
the shift key, control key, and shift-control while closing but each
time Outlook opens to the same size window-not the one I want.
A similar problem occurs with reading messages. Try as I might to
re-size and have the setting stick it won't.
Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm re-posting this request for assistance in the hope it was just
overlooked the other day.
