HTTP Virtual Server Instance 100 (event ID 1013 and 1005)

We have exchange 2003 cluster with 2 nodes (Active/Passive) and the
fail over happens with out any problem for a few days. You know that wouldn’t last for long!
But after applying a ssl certificate on the servers. It worked for a few days and now the  Exchange Virtual Server (EVS) resource fails  Exchange HTTP Virtual Server Instance 100 ((IMAIL) fails. (IMAIL) is the virtual server network resource name. And when I look into the event log
We have tons event ID 1013 and 1005

event ID 1013
Exchange HTTP Virtual Server Instance 100 (IMAIL): Failed to get the protocol IP address and port bindings from the metabase.

event ID 1005
Exchange HTTP Virtual Server Instance 100 (IMAIL): The IsAlive check for this resource failed.

Please help.

I am having some problems failing our Exchange cluster from one node to
the other and would appreciate some help.

The first node (CNODE01) is working fine but webmail stopped
functioning with SSL at some point on Monday morning. I have since
removed the certificate and I can access webmail on this system via
HTTP only.

If I try to fail over the services to the second node (CNODE02) then
they all move over but...the HTTP Virtual Server Instance 100 then
unloads itself and forces all the services back to CNODE01.

The Event Viewer reports 'The IsAlive check for this resource failed'
and error ID 1005. It also reports 'Failed to get the protocol IP
address and port bindings from the metabase.' with error ID 1013.

The metabase.xml file seems fine and if this were corrupt, as some have
suggested, then why would HTTP webmail work from CNODE01? None of the
IP addresses have changed in anyway. A recent domain controller and
DNS server installed on Friday has been removed from the network so it
can't cause any potential difficulties but then what halm would it have
done anyway?

I have been going around in circles for 2 days now trying to find a
solution. Can anyone suggest anything?

I am running a Windows 2003 Server, Exchange 2003 Server Active/Passive
cluster. One node was the Active node when one of our technicians was
installing Blackberry Enterprise Server (I cannot be sure if this install is
absolutely what caused the problem I will describe, however the timing seemed
suspicious). He was unable to install the BBES because proper permissions to
it's account had not been set properly in Exchange System Manager. We have
since installed BBES and it is working properly.
The problem that occured on Exch1 that day was that the "HTTP Virtual Server
Instance 100" reported itself "Offline" and in ESM there was a red mark over
it displaying a critical system state. When I tried to put the HTTP VSI back
online, it made all other virtual services fail, and the Passive node became
the active node.
I was wondering if anyone might have an idea of where to start on this
issue. The Event Viewer does not appear to have any events realted to this,
which I found very peculiar.
Thank you in advance.

I'm continously getting this error on my 2003 Exchange activepassive cluster "Exchange HTTP Virtual Server instance 100. The IsAlive check for this resource failed. And I deals who to deal with this? As you know OWA and ActiveSync is down when this happens.

Hi guys,

I need your urgent help. After returning to work this morning we noticed
that the HTTP access was down. When we looked at the IIS manager we saw that
the default web site and Exchange Virtual Server were both stopped. We tried
to restart them but kept failures. We then had a look at the cluster
services and noticed that the Exchange HTTP Virtual Server Instance 100 had
failed. We are unable to get this to start again.

The event error we get is:

Has anyone had this problem before and if so were you able to fix it?

A couple of days ago we proceeded to install RPC over HTTP on our Exchange
2003 cluster. After installing Windows 2003 SP1 and Exchange 2003 SP1 we
noticed that OWA was no longer working. On further investigation we found
that we had to install the patch KB841561 to get OWA running again. We did
this last night and everything appeared to be working fine. We could access
the Exchange server via Outlook 2003 and Out Web Access via SSL.

Upon returning to work this morning we noticed that the HTTP access was down
again. When we looked at the IIS manager we saw that the default web site and
Exchange Virtual Server were both stopped. We tried to restart them to no
avail. We then had a look at the cluster services and it was then that we
noticed that the Exchange HTTP Virtual Server Instance 100 had failed. We are
unable to get this to start again.

I am getting this error when I try to fail my cluster over:

Exchange HTTP Virtual Server Instance. The IsAlive check for this
resource failed.

Event ID 1005
Source MSExchangeCluster

I am running Windows 2003 SP1 on both nodes, and Exchange 2003 SP1. It
work fine on my first node but will not work on the second node.

I have tried various fixes such as deleting the High water marks for the
metabase in IIS. Copying the metabase fromn the good node to the faulty
one etc.

Thanks in Advance.

Hey guys,

I am having some issues and i have already googled it ;) but couldn't find anything relevant....The issue is when ever I restart the server or the WWW service I get a warning event (1013) in my System log which says exchangeapplicationpool (More details below) and also quite a few 3005 Event ID's, I have ActiveSync configured and its working perfectly fine...I have a single exchange server setup on a member server and is FBA enabled, so I have followed KB article 817379 to setup ActiveSync....so any idea guys how can I avoid getting the below mentioned Event ID's ?

PS: I can confirm the TEMP folder has appropriate rights for ActiveSync to work and the registry settings for ActiveSync are in perfect state and the permissions on the all the Virtual directories is good as well.......

Hi

Hi all,

I have 2-node A/P W2k3 Cluster w/ Exchange 2k3 SP1 on production. Everything
works fine and smooth but one day the HTTP virtual server resource is failed.
I have no idea what's going on coz I didn't make any changes recently. Also
there is an error in the event log and says the HTTP resource is failed. The
event ID is 1069. I checked the service and it's local system logon, so it's
not the permission issue. I can't bring the resource online manually. Is it
something wrong with the IIS 6.0? How can I check? or Do I need to reinstall
the HTTP resource? Please tell me the detailed information. Please
help.....Thank you!

Hi,
I have a 5A/2P Exchange 2003 cluster. When I attempt to bring the nodes offline, the first 4 will go offline, however, the 5th will fail, due to the SMTP virtual server instance failing.

All I get in the event viewer are the usual errors

Event ID 1024
SMTP Virtual Server Instance 2 (ServerName): Failed to stop service
'SMTPSVC'.

Event Id 1004
SMTP Virtual Server Instance 2 (ServerName): Failed to take the resource
offline.

Event Id 1020
Exchange Information Store Instance (ServerName): Failed to take this
resource offline because of timeout.

All I get in the cluster log is the following

Microsoft Exchange SMTP Server Instance : [EXRES] DwWaitServiceStateChangeToTargetState: service 'SMTPSVC' current state is: stop pending.

However, the funny thing is that it is the last node I shutdown, meaning if I shut them down in a different order, a different node fails, eg, node 2 fails instead of node 5.

Anyone have any ideas ??

My webmail (HTTP virtual server) won't start. All I get in any of the event
logs is
"Exchange HTTP Virtual Server: The IsAlive check for this resource failed. "
with an error code of 1005.

The thing is, nothing has changed since Exchage SP2 a couple of months back.
The cluster service log as this to say: (it's a bit long)

Hi

I am experiencing a problem with our Exchange 2003 Cluster, when I attempt to failover a cluster. One of the Cluster nodes fails on the “Exchange HTTP virtual Server Instance 102” RESOURCE and fails back

The event logs have the following entries:

“cannot register the URL prefix”
The necessary network binding may already be in use

CLUSSCV   -   Event ID 1069
Cluster resource “Exchange HTTP Virtual Server Instance 102” failed

Any idea?

Node failed successfully this morning but very curious to find out the failure cause.

Application Log show this on the failed Node:

hi All, I have a problem with my exchange server. We run OWA on the server as well and the HTTP virtual server has been stopped. when I try to restart it I get the following error message.

Cannot create a file when that file already exists

Has anyone seen this before, and more importantly does anyone know the solution. Any suggestions would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All. I have a problem with my exchange server. We run outlook web access
from the server and the HTTP virtual server has been stopped, when I try to
restart it I get the following error message

Cannot create a file when that file already exists
Facility: Win32

Exchange System Manager

Has anyone else already come across this problem, and if so how do I get
round it. I have checked security permissions and they are correct.
any ideas would be really helpful.

I need to create a SMTP connector, so I need to create a new SMTP Virtual
Server for it.
In cluster admin I created an IP address for this resource. Then I tried to
create a SMTP Virtual Server. However, after the wizard page where it asks
for a dependency and demands a System Attendant, I get the following error.

All the virtual server instances for this protocol are already in the
cluster. ID no: c1037f37

Is the problem that I am creating the SMTP Virtual Server in the same group
that already has one? Is the problem that I need to create a new System
Attendant also?

I have an A/A/P cluster. On occasion the HTTP virtual server from either
active node will cause the virtual server to fail-over. When this happens I
notice that the node that was the owner of the resource has a different IP
address for the HTTP virtual server.
We have two different IP addresses on the nodes and the private address is
what appears in the IP address for the HTTP virtual server. The only thing I
can do to get this to fail back over is to set the value to 'all unassigned'.
I haven't seen anything in the event logs that points me in the right
direction.
Has anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas on why this is
happening or how to fix?

I am working with a client on setting up his Exchange cluster. I have been
asked to configure everything so that they can access OWA from outside the
network via SSL on 2 different fqdns. For example:

webmail.domain1.com

and

webmail.domain2.com

I've come up with a solution that seems to work, but I just want to make
sure it is proper / supported / etc.

What I've done is:

1) Take the Exchange cluster group offline.
2) Create a new IP resource.
3) Add the new IP resource as a dependency of the existing Exchange Virtual
Server Network Name resource.
4) Bring the Exchange cluster group online.
5) Create a new HTTP Virtual Server in System Manager, binding it to the new
ip and creating an SSL identity for it at the same time.
6) Add a new HTTP Server instance to the cluster using the new HTTP Virtual
server with the only depency being the System Attendant.
7) Add the proper SSL cert in IIS Manager to the new HTTP server.
8) Test.

I can logon to the new OWA site, send mail, etc.

Is the correct way to go about it? Am I forgetting anything?

Any comments or suggestions are most appreciated.

Thanks,

RS

PS I posted this same question in the setup newsgroup and haven't received
any responses, so I thought I'd try here also.

Dear sir,

When I try to start the http Virtual server, an error message box appears ,
which is
"Invalid Argument, Facility WIn32, ID No:80070057.

Give me a solution for that...

With Thanks & Regards

Shiju Sekharan

The event logs were mostly 1005 errors in the app log and 1123, 1124 and
1069 in the sys log.

Basically, it's just telling me the virtual servers are dying, failing the
Isalive check or losing communication with the other node ..... One thing I
wonder is whether Virtual Server is a factor that makes cluster behave in a
funny way. I applied the VS 2005 SP1 (beta), but it makes no difference. I
suspect the networking component because when I run LoadSim, I can never
pass the Initialization stage. It always stopped due to some network
problem (MAPI error of some sort). When I do ping -t, I'd get 'Request time
out' every now and then, even when all the servers are sitting idle.

Unfortunately, I don't have a real cluster hardware to do the comparison.

I'm running a Exchange 2k3 cluster on my virtual server 2005. My machine
is
a PIII 733 with 2G ram and a 37G hard disk.

Both VM starts fine but the SMTP virtual server and the HTTP virtual
server
will 'Fail' after around 5-10 min (even they were just sitting idle),
sometimes trigger a failover, sometimes don't. I tried everything I can
to
look for the reason and can't fine anything.

Someone please help.

Thanks,
Es
