Public Folders disappeared – Plz help!

I'm afraid I've made a big mistake when I tried to move the Public Folders from our old Exchange 2003 Server to the new 2010 Exchagne Server. Before all the folders were replicated, I have executed "Move All Replicas' as explained in this article:

http://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/...80%93-part-ii/ When all mailboxes are moved to the Exchange Server 2010 Mailbox Server it’s time to remove the Public Folder Database from Exchange Server 2003. Since this Public Folder Database contains a replica of the Public Folder data the replica has to be moved to another server, in this case the Exchange Server 2010 Mailbox Server.
Logon to the Exchange Server 2003 server and open the Exchange System Manager. Navigate to the Exchange Server 2003 Mailbox Server, right click the Public Folder Database and select “Move All Replicas”. Select the Exchange Server 2010 Public Folder database in the drop down box and click OK.
A warning message is displayed that the Public Folder Replicas will be move to the other Public Folder Database and that this can take a considerable amount of time. I’ve seen situation where this took more than 24 hours to complete. Replication takes place using SMTP messages that are sent across the Interop Routing Group Connector to the Exchange Server 2010 Public Folder Database.

Are all folders lost now or is there a way to get them back?

Hello,

I've got an end user who's Public folders disappeared. In folder
view, I see my exchange mailboxes, my .PST files, and the Public
Folders 'mailbox'. When I expand Public Folders, I see 'Favorites' and
'All Public Folders'. This end user, when she goes to folder view, she
sees her exchange mailboxes, her .PST files, and the Public Folders
'mailbox'. However, when she expands Public Folders all she sees is
'Favorites'. This is a sudden change, as they were there when she
logged off last night, and when she came in this morning they were
missing. Are there some settings I can check to make the 'All Public
Folders' folder come back?

Thanks for any help you can give!!!

~Ryan

I dont ask a question relating to this earlier with no response.

I overwrote our public folder store database with an old backup from another
server, yes stupid i know please only make helpful comments on what to do
next, Our mailbox store appears to still be running perfectly everyone can
access their email and send/receive fine.

I assume the best thing to do next is to either recreate a public store, as
the one which i overwrote will not start, obviously, or, if possible,
rollback the public store to the stage it was at 2 days ago(i dont have a
backup and there wasn't anything important relating to public folders in the
public store, but i believe that the public store is required for the
mailboxes to work correctly?

If i delete the currently damaged public store which wont start, will this
have any effect on the mailboxes, if i delete can i just create a new public
store within the same storage group and link this to the mailbox store?

Or is there anyway to rollback the public store through logfiles to how it
was 2 days ago(i have no backups as the public folders had no information
which was needed for us).

If anyne could give me some advice on the best next step i would appreciate
it, i dont want to mess up the mailbox store and this is my current concern.

Also under public folder store public folders I am not able to see
the folder under default public folder as well as general purpose folder
that was created earlier
But I am able to access the folder under default public folder tree through
outlook and owa
Wnen dismounted the public folder store belonging to the default public
folder tree and tried remounting it the public folder store would not mount
Is there any way to restore the default public folder tree
Please help

We are installing a new Exchange2003 server to replace our Exchange2000
server and everything had been going great until we got to public folders. We
set each one to replicate to the new server. all folders seem to have
replicated fine so we were removing the old server from the replication.
While we were doing that the public folders began disappearing from both
servers. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Hello,

I am having Public Folders issues in my Exchange 2003 -> 2007 transition.
My clients are all still connected to the Exchange 2003 as I am doing a slow transition to make sure everything works fine. All the mailboxes (except a test one) are still in the Exchange 2003 box too.

- I tried to replicate the Public Folders in Exchange 2003 to the 2007 box by adding the server to the replica servers of each public folder. That made the folders disappear from ALL the servers.

- After a restore of the store (kuddos to backup solutions), I tried a second approach: Did a "Move All Replicas" From the exchange server 2003 to the 2007, and updated the Default Public Folder Store to the Exchange 2007. Waited overnight for all the replicas to move, arrived this morning and they had disappeared again.

- Again did a restore of the store (to the 2003 box).

All the messages between both servers seem to be normal, I have the replication logging turned on to maximum in almost all items. The Hub Role is working fine, I am using it as the only SMTP relay to the organization right now.

The Mailbox role seems to be working fine too, I have one mailbox in the new server and it doesn't seem to have problems.

So, I'm at a loss. right now the folders are all in the Exchange 2003 box, with no replicas in the 2007 one because they'll just disappear from both. but I need to have them in the new box, the old one is going to disappear as soon as everything is moved to the new one...

Can anyone point me the right direction to go?

Thank you in advance,
Ana Sofia Santana

P.S. The Exchange 2007 Server has the default instalation: HUB role, Mailbox Role and Client Access Role.

Hi all,

After decommissioning Exchange 2003 our Public folders dissapeared. In EMC under „Public folder database“ shows „ There are no items to show in this view“.
We shut down Exchange 2003 for 2 weeks and everything was working fine. 5 days after decomission all public folders have dissapeared. PB database can be mounted and dismounted with no problem.

Please help.

TIA

I administer a exchange 2000 server, yesterday morning when i arrived at work, one of our public folders was missing. I checked all log files, etc to see if the system was compromised, but everyhting was fine. Any idea why a folder would just disappear. Right now I can only assume that someone deleted it.

Any input would be appreciated ?

My public folders icon has disappeared and I am unable to get it back, even
if I remove the OST and recreate it. My laptop however works fine with public
folders?
How can I get the link back (have tried go to folder and can select any
public folder but does not show content).Any ideas?

Hi,

We run exchange 2003 sp2 and have a rather large public folder which handles
messages mailed from an outlook add-on (they are pushed from the users inbox
to the public folder automatically). Now our folder is growing by 8gb per
day, for no apparent reason. Logs are continually being generated and the
store visibly grows if you look in the folder. Our public folder is 55Gb
and between the two folders contained in this there is close to 1,000,000
messages.

In order to try and correct this we've ran isinteg -fix, and even eseutil
/p - but as soon as the store mounts and people log on the problem returns.

Turning up logging reveals no errors processing messages and monitoring
total ops in exchange reveals figures of around 1000 occasionally while
users access the store.

Is there anything we're missing? Should we run isinteg against the priv
store incase a message is continually being pushed? Is there any tools to
examine "stuck" messages? Because of the way the app handles messages we
can't clear out the folder!

Hey all,

I have this issue with one public folder in particular.

I have the rights to send to, and read the folder.

The public folder is mail enabled, and a member of a mail-enabled group.

When I send mail to that group, it should route the mail to the folder.

However, the mail just... doesn't get to the folder somehow. I see in the tracking tool, that it hits the categorizer. But no mail in the folder, and no NDR.

Anyone got an idea ?

Re: Exchange 2003 SP2

I have a mail enabled public folder which has a rule that sends an
automatical reply to any email sent to it(Originally created via Folder
Assistant)

However, when I now look at this public folder, I can't see this rule,
and I need to either change the contents of the auto reply or delete it
& create a new one.

I have full exchange permissions, and can create additional rules,
which appear when viewed.

(I've run ISINTEG on the public folder information store)

HELP!!

Hi, can anybody offer advice on the following:-

If you have a public folder containing contact details, can you use this
folder in webmail for addressing emails etc. You can get to the 'Global
Address List' and the contacts form the users mailbox but not public
folder contacts!

Any help would be appreciated

Martin

Dear all,

I have noticed that public folders will for no reason drop of users clients
and the reappear without any intervention. Eventvwr shows no errors just one
warning 5008 to indicate a log file was deleted which seems fine. Oh and we
have exchange 2003 standard SP1. Recently sorted out some AD problems and now
all dc's seem to be replicating correctly with no errors or warnings. I have
recently updated RUS pointing it to correct DC as it was pointing to a server
that had been demoted following AD troubles. So I'm lost as why this happens
any ideas or suggestions greatly recieved.

many thanks

Steven.

I ( my company ...) have a bunch of contacts in public folders.

How an I add them to a Global address list, to be able to use the "To"/"Cc"
button in Outlook.

Adding from outlook the public folders to outlook address list seems to
work, but is ABSOLUTELY NOT an option since it requires an intervention on
each user profile / Computer.
I require a server only modification.

What kind of ldap request should I put in filters for my new address list,
created with exchange system manager.
I have seen http://support.microsoft.com/kb/253828/en-us but not really
explicit.although is contains magical words "contact" and "public folders".

Thanks for helping.
PS Exchange server 2003.

François.

I am a new administrator for a large Exchange 2003 organization that is just
getting off the ground. We had to recently reconfigure replication of a
public folder. It was set to replicate content to a number of servers when
it really was meant to reside only on a couple of servers. To make the
change, from within ESM I went to our Enterprise Administrative Group and to
the Folders folder, to Public Folders, to the top level folder that had been
created for the branch office to migrate their public folders into and I
went into the properties of this branch office public folder then to the
replication tab and changed the servers listed there, removing seven servers
originally listed and leaving only two.

I noticed that almost immediately the name of the Branch Office Public
folder disappeared from the Public Folder Store/Public Folder folder of the
Servers which were removed from this list for content replicas... BUT I
still see the Branch Office Public Folder listed in the Public Folder
Store/Public Folder INSTANCES folder of these same servers. No one ever used
the copy replicas that were specified before, and they were not needed,
which is why they were removed from the replication list for this folder.

My question is, I am puzzled as to the difference and distinction between
the Public Folders folder and the Public Folder Instances folder seen within
the server's Public Folder Store. Most importantly I would like to know if
it is "Safe" to remove the apparent replicas of the Branch Office Public
Folder which remain in these Public Folder Instances folders on the various
servers which have been removed from the original replication list? The
Branch office has since migrated several hundred public folders into their
copy of this top level public folder and I most certainly wouldn't want to
unintentionally impact those!

Is this "replica" I see in the Public Folder Instances folder of these other
servers actually the content replica still existing in the state it was in
prior to removal of these servers from the content replication list? And
will removal of it from these other servers have any impact at all on the
main copy which I wish to have remain intact?

Thanks in advance for any guidance and advice!

Maureen
