Changing from Mixed mode to Native mode

I have a single 2003 server that was a clean install, there was no migration.
The button to change from mixed mode to native mode is greyed out. What do
I need to do to fix this issue, or will the server have to stay in native
because there is only one server?

Thanks, JamesMS

Hi,

I am planning to change the WIN2K domain we have from Mixed Mode to Native at the weekend! During this process I want to change our Exchange environment from mixed mode to Native. Currently the 'change mode' button is greyed out in Exchange. When I change the Win2K domain to native will this not be greyed out anymore? Just concerned that we may have an issue!

I know this is a long message, but please help me!!!

Background Information:
We have 7 regional companies located in 7 countries. Our company’s
headquarter is in London. All regional companies have their own separate
NT4.0 domain with an Exchange 5.5 Server, which are not in the same forest or
each company have no linkage between them. But the London Headquarter hold
an Exchange 5.5 server, and works as a global hub, which allow each of the
regional companies using a X.400 connector to connect to it. Each of the 7
regional companies creates its own exchange 5.5 site and join to the same
exchange 5.5 organization, under this structure, we share our GAL in this
way. Our headquarter recently planned to moved onto AD domain and
Exchange2003, and We will use MIIS (at last) as a solution to link up all the
7 regional companies’ exchange 2003 systems and as a result, share the
exchange 2003 GAL.

Currently situation:
In my regional company, I migrated the NT Domain to an AD Domain and
currently having a Exchange 2003 coexistence with Exchange5.5 environment.
Everything works fine with the migration process. Since MIIS is not well
planned from the Headquarter London Site yet, so I need to share the existing
GAL from my 5.5 Exchange server.

Questions here:
After the MIIS works, when I wanna convert from the Exchange 2003 mixed mode
to native mode, I need to delete each (7) SRS from each (7) sites. And then
decommission the Exchange Server 5.5 computer in my own site, and finally
delete the ConnectionAgreement from the ADC. There is no problem at this
point. However, I am concerning that I do not have the rights to delete
other (6) SRS and other 5.5 server (which belong to each other (6) regional
companies). So how can I do in order to convert to Native mode after the
MIIS is work? Anyone Please Help? Thanks in advance!

I have converted mixed mode to native mode in Exchange server 2003 but even
then I am unable to make query based distribution group. The message is Query
based distribution can be made in native mode only. When I check the
properties it is already in native mode.

Hello,
I am doing a Migration from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 using new
hardware.

My servers now look like this:
Windows 2000 SP4 server with Exchange 2000 running as a DC and GC
Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003 SP1 running as a DC and GC

These are the steps I have completed:
Added the Windows 2003 server as a DC. (I ran thought the entire process;
But just want to write it out.)
Changed to “Exchange Native Mode”
Ran Exchange 2003 setup/forestprep
Ran Exchange 2003 setup/domainprep
Installed Exchange 2003 (From the “Exchange Server Deployment Tools SP1”)
• I selected to “Deploy your first Exchange 2003 server”
• Then “Upgrade from Exchange 2000 Native Mode”
Installed Exchange 2003 SP1

I started moving a few user mail boxes to test the waters and everything
looks great.
Then I start reading more on how I going to move the public folders and here
is where I saw the problem.

When I went to the properties of the organization to select “Show Routing
groups” and I noticed that the Exchange Operation Mode was still reading
“Mixed Mode”. Now I know that I changed this!

Could this be a mistake? What ramifications could happen if it is in “Mixed
Mode” and I change it to “Native Mode”? Is there a place in ADSIEdit that I
can check to see if this is set? Any Advice would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks
James

We have single domain with a single Exchange 2K server. We have never had anything except the Exchange 2K server in our organization. I'm about to convert our domain to native mode.
While there are plenty of articles about steps to take in between upgrading from 5.5 to 2K and then converting to native mode, I haven't found anything about simply converting to native mode if you started with Exchange 2K to begin with in your organization.
Is there anything (other than the usual making sure there are no old NT servers floating about) that should be done before I do this?
Thanks.

I want to know if i can do a move mailbox from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 with Exchange 2000 in mixed mode.THERE was an exchange 5.5 server in the same exchange orginazition which has not been properly removed since the exchange 5.5 serverobject is still in the exchange 2000 system manager. The 2000 mode option is grayed out.It is in the mixed mode.Mailboxes are on exchange 2000 server and users are connected to exchnage 2000.
I want to install exchange 2003 in the same exchnage orginization and move the mailboxes to exchange 2003 server.
On the exchange 2003 setup deployment there are four options

-Coexistence with exchange 5.5 server.
-Coexistence with mixed mode Exchange 2000 and exchange 5.5.
-Upgrade from exchange 2000 native mode.
-New Exchange 2003 installation.

If i select option 2 i.ecoexistence with mixed mode since exchange 2000 is running in mixed mode.
how can i change exchange 2000 from mixed mode to Native mode since the exchnage 2000 mode option is grayed out.
Please suggest which option i should choose.

Shamim

Hi there

Could someone tell me whether there are any issues i should be aware of when moving from mixed mode to native mode on a win2k Domain Controller with Exchange 2k on it?

Many thanks

Hi,
I'm facing the problem while changing the exchange mode form mixed to native. The option is greyed out. Even i delete the 2 old exchange servers using adsiedit but until now it's grey.
Thanks,

My exchange 2k organization is currently in mixed mode, and all my win2k
servers/domains also in mixed mode.

Questions:
1. Is there a relation between ex2k mode and win2k mode?
2. If I want to move ex2k mixed mode to native mode, should I first move
win2k mixed mode to native mode before moving ex2k's mixed to native mode?
3. What is the impact/effect if I only move ex2k mixed mode to native mode
without moving win2k mixed mode to native mode?

Please help, thanks for sharing this in advance.

Vincent.

Hello,

we have a exchange server 2003 sp1 (active/passive cluster system) and
outlook 2003 with office sp1 via terminal services (citrix).

One User has over 4700 calendar entries. From time to time (2x per
Day) lasts the change from mail inbox to calendar (50 - 70 seconds).
In this time the outlook connection balloon in the system tray opens.

We dont use the exchange cache modus on the terminal server in
outlook!

Who has an idea?

Best regards,

Marc

We recently changed from Office XP to Office 2003. In Outlook, when I click
on the Address Book icon then click on the drop down triangle next to "Show
names from the:" field my Contacts are no longer listed with the Global
Address List. How do I add them back as an option to get addresses?

when changing from the inbox to the personal floders tab, the screen goes
blank for a while and then gives me a message saying it couldn't open the
webpage.
plus, everything has slowed down tremendously when getting mail and changing
between all other tabs

I had a problem setting up Outlook 2007 on my new laptop and my service
provider told me to set it up as Microsoft Exchange instead of POP3.

Can someone please tell me how I can change from Microsoft Exch to POP3 as I
cannot use Outlook at the moment - thanks!

I quess you could say I'm new at this. I am tired of having so many email
address that I decided to just use Outlook as my everyday email and contact
management. While finally changing from outlook express after several tries,
I managed to achieve that goal. In the meantime after spending 3 hours on the
computer all the contacts that I did have enetered into several different
categories were no onger there after I clicked on the contact tab. I was so
disgusted and aggravated that I restore my computer back to a week ao to get
all the settings back and hopefully my contacts, which did work. My question
now is, how do I keep from losing all those contacts whle changing from
outlook express to outlook? Thanks for any help.

Using Officed 2003 SP2, I am finding that when I view my calendar, every
appointment (holiday, birthday, anniversary, or manually entered) gets spread
across two days. When I open up the appointment (the series), everything
appears as an all-day event should. If I then open the appointment recurrance
then hit ok without making changes, the appoint then appears as an all-day
event should, taking one day on the calendar view instead of two. Upon
further examination, I'm finding that somehow the start and end times have
changed from 12:00AM to 1:00AM. I have gone through once already and
corrected this problem with my recurring appts. but it has returned to this
annoying state

Time Zones settings are correct both for Windows and Office.

My network access is set up for roaming profiles, but my outlook PST file is
located in my personal folder on the network server.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have an Outlook user where the icon in the inbox message section gets an
incoming new email, the text is bold, and the icon envelope is closed. She is
using the reading pane, and clicks in the message in the reading pane, then
clicks away to the next message, the envelope icon does not change from
closed (unread) to open (read).. the text does not go from bold to unbold.

It is really weird .. and started after last month's updates... any
suggestions on what could be causing this?

thanks.
