Outlook strips + character when importing contacts from CSV

I'm finding that whenever I import contacts with phone numbers with leading +
signs, the + is stripped in Outlook.

So with phone numbers in the form +44, importing will just store them as 44.
The problem with this is I sync my Nokia N95 phone with Outlook and when in
this form, all of my numbers are invalidated and undiallable.

This doesn't happen with Outlook 2000, that imports the numbers correctly,
retaining the +.

The exact reproduction steps I undertake are as follows:

1. In GMail, export contacts in Outlook format, creating contacts.csv.
2. Open Import & Export wizard in Outlook 2003.
3. Import from another program or file.
4. Comma Separated Values (Windows).
5. Select correct file to import.
6. Select contacts folder.
7. Finish.

After this, all contacts in the contacts folder are stripped of the leading +.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of a workaround?

Hello,

Trying to import contacts from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007.  Have a CSV file and an Excel version

I map all the fields and when it starts the import I get:  MAPI Error:  0X80040107.  Please try again later.

Any suggestiong would be great.

I was able to pull all the data except the field of email. i did a
simple excercise
1. i exported a name and email of one person in excel
2.saved it as csv.
3. deleted any contact from outlook
4. imported contact from csv file

There was no email in tha.

Can anyone help me?

Using the import wizard, the final screen (choosing the destination folder)
is empty when I try to import contacts from an Excel file (created by
exporting from another Outlook profile). I have successfully used the
import/export features in other profiles for Outlook on my computer, but this
particular profile is not responding correctly. Any advice?

Hello

I'm trying to import contacts from a .csv file.
After following the import steps and selecting the .csv file (with the option not to import duplicate entries) I have to perform the mapping.
The problem is that the columns are not separated. In the "Import Field" instead of having several single entries I have one concatenated field: Company;FirstName;LastName;Location and so on.
A possible mapping would be: location -> Company;FirstName;LastName;Location ...
The desired mapping would be (single mapping for each column):
Company -> Company
FirstName -> FirstName.

I assume the .csv file must be changed so that the fields are correctly read before proceeding with the mapping and the import.
Are there any guides on how to properly format the .csv file for import?

Cheers
W

I am trying to import contacts from an excel csv file into Outlook.  I follow the directions, but when I get to the last stage of the import, the option to Finish isn't on there.

File/Open/Import/Import from another Program or file/Select the file to import - CSV/ File to Import-Browse/ Select/Import a File-Allow duplicates to be created/Next/Select Destination Folder/Next.......Change Desitnation is highlighed...nothing happens.  I can only go Back or Cancel.  There is no finish button.

Any help would be appreciated.

THanks,

I would like to know how to transfer/import contacts from my AOL account to
outlook. When sending an email yesterday, all of my emails from AOL
transfered to Outlook but it was just that; emails, not the contacts.

Please help. Thanks

I had to export my complete contacts folder (1400+ contacts) from Outlook
2007 to an Excel spread sheet to correct the phone numbers to a consistent
format of "(###) ###-#### x####". When I imported the complete data set, any
of the phone numbers that were more than 10 digits "(###) ###-####" (i.e that
had an extension associated with them) were not imported with the rest of the
contact data. However, when I retried the import and only used a small
subset of contacts (12), all the phone number fields were imported correctly.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

how do i import contacts from gmail to outlook?
i exported from gmail as csv files
but outlook gets only csf or few other formats
i will thank a quick replay

When attempting to import contacts from Excel I receive the following error:

MAPI error 0X80040107.

I have Windows 7 on a 64 bit laptop. (I never had this issue with my prior
computer which had a 32 bit processor - don't know if this is an issue)

I converted the Excel data to .xls and .csv formats and got the same message.

I did name the data range, just as I have for the past several years.

The closest correction I can locate on the MS sight relates to the
mapi32.dll file, which as my computer is not a ....32... processor, I'm not
willing to try this fix.

Please send your suggestions.

A friend has a laptop, W7 Home Premium with Office 2007. Both English versions.

She is trying to import her Outlook Contacts from an XP Pro SP3/Office 2003
Pro Greek system.

The new system won't recognise the Greek characters when importing the PST ,
although it is possible to manually add Contacts in Greek.

Installing the Office 2007 Greek Language pack doesn't help.

So there is a ridiculous situation whereby she has a Office with all menus
etc in Greek, she can manually add Contacts in Greek, but she can't import
the 600 odd
contacts from her old system.

Advice please.

everyone. No matter what permission level the user has. Does anybody have
any ideas??

Changed jobs. How can I import contacts from my old Outlook account using
OWA into my new Outlook account?

Hello,

On a PC with Office 2003, I want to import contacts from an Excel 2003 file
into Outlook 2003.
According to the Outlook help file this should be in Outlook 2003: "File -
Import and Export - Import from another program or file - Microsoft
Excel". See:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...CL100626971033
However, this "Microsoft Excel" option is missing. Does anybody have an idea
what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Ed

Hi all,

am importing contacts from laptop using Windows 2000Professional/Outlook
2000 to a Desktop using Windows XP/Outlook 2003. I have done this
successfully previously but this time have problems.
I copied file to a new personal file on the laptop. I see this file as a
..pst in Outlook file on Windows Explorer. I copy to CD. It burns
successfully. From CD, I copy file to appropriate place in Outlook file on
Desktop. When I try to access in Outlook either directly by opening outlook
data file command or importing it, it says this file is not a personal file.
Yet it has a pst extension. File is not read only and file type was checked
to accept earlier version and is not passworded.
How can I get 2003 Outlook to accept it.

When exporting contacts from home computer Outlook 2003 into Excel and
importing from Excel into Outlook 2002, email addresses are missing. All
other contact data is intact.

I have installed all the latest updates to Office 2003 but Outlook seems only
capable of importing contacts from Lotus Organiser 4 or 5. Is there some
other way to import contacts from Organiser 6 that anyone knows about?
