Rebuilding exchange... what to do while e-mail is down?

I am rebuilding our exchange server 2003 from scratch. We currently only have one exchange server. So when I take it down to rebuild it, there will be no where for the e-mails to go.

Is there an easy way for me to set something up to bounce back e-mails saying the server is down for upgrades? Or can someone think of a better idea?

Much appreciated!

Exchange for my e-mail. It takes FOR EVER from me to send an e-mail with
multiple recipients since I have to search for each one of them in my address
book seperately. It would be VERY useful for OE to have an auto-complete
option that would check my address book for likely matches that I could
confirm on the spot.

This morning opened Outlook 2003 as I always do but e-mails did not come in,
even after I clicked send and receive several times. I sent test e-mail, it
was sent. I checked my hotmail acct, new e-mails are there they just don't
come into Outlook. I can send from Outlook, why can't I receive?? I changed
NO settings. The only thing I did yesterday was delete web browse history,
delete cookies, delete temp folders. I do these things ever few weeks so
doubt that is the issue but who knows. Please, if anyone knows what's going
on, I would be ever so appreciative for advice!! I have IE7 which BTW has
never allowed me to complete my personal setting. Everytime I open there is
the starter page asking me to cutomize my settings. When I do and click save
it ALWAYS says error on page and I get nowhere:( I can live with this but my
Outlook not receiving is not acceptable. Please please, any help out there?!
Thank you in advance!!

With my dad's outlook account, whenever he sends an e-mail, another e-mail
always attaches itself to the beginning of his new e-mail message.

The e-mail that gets attached to all his e-mails is one that was sent to him
by a coworker. So I don't know if my dad clicked on something to get this
message to send with every e-mail or what. It's almost like a "header" to
the e-mail... I looked for settings on that but no luck.

Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

I would like to do an e-mail merge in word that "direct replies to" a different e-mail address than I'm sending from.  I start the e-mail merge and select my recipients from an excel document with other specific information, but I don't see in Word where you can direct replies to another e-mail address.  Is this possible?

Hi

Earlier when i used to click "Save and Send" in IE, a pop-up saying "A
program is trying to automatically send e-mail..." used to come, now it
doesn't appear.
I want this Back. Please Help.
Many thanks for any suggestion.

Hi,
I have one domain for example abc.com and one exchange server 2003 using e-mail for abc.com for around 200people. How do I add a second company e-mails @xyz.com that the domain was just created.
to the same exchange server so that I can create acounts of the same people one for the new company xyz.com and not have conflict with the old
abc.com Two acounts would be ideal with the same address but a different domain. Everywhere I see it always seems to suggest just adding the smtp to
the default recipient policy but then how would I send from xyz.com with out changing the primary e-mail or have to change the e-mail/acount name and create new acounts.
Right now they can recieve the @xyz.com on the same acount and thats it. How is it that I could have bob@abc.com and bob@xyz.com two seperate acounts? or least send from either domain with no connection to the other on the same acount.
many Thanks for any help.

I have update my exchange to the later version but i found that if i add new user to my domain and new mailbox, my user will have a "unable to open default e-mail folders. You do no have permission to log on. Check on Microsoft knowledger base and found that i need a file "lsdxamex.exe". Where do I go to find this file.

Greetings,

Our Exchange03 server seems to hijack a few e-mails that were sent from
Outlook03 with a POP/SMTP Internet e-mail service. Under e-mail account the
POP/SMTP Internet e-mail service is first, and Exchange user account is 2nd.
They will sit in the Exchange queue in retry state, then we would get the
following message sent back in our mailbox.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached: the.user@email.com on
8/29/2005 1:42 PM There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's
email server. Please contact your system administrator.

The e-mail account “the.user@email.com“ is verified to be correct.

Why do some outbound messages sit in the Exchange queue and return back with
error, when they were intended to be sent via the POP/SMTP Internet e-mail
service?

What can we do to correct this?

More information – This seems to happen with e-mail sent to the same domain
name (more than one). This only seems to happen with e-mails that have
attachments, mostly PDFs. We have no ports forwarded to the Exchange server,
so that it should not handle, itself, Internet e-mail.

Please, I will take ANY comments or help! This is causing major relation
problems with our customers waiting for their e-mail.

Imagine I have two Exch servers setup as SMTP connectors, same routing
group.
I need to take Server 1 down and rebuild it with Exch2003. Cost = 1.
Server2 is already an Exchange 2003 server. Cost = 5.

Question is this:

If I just shutdown Server1 (shutdown for observation, then later remove
Exch2000), what happens with potential e-mails on the SMTP queues in the
respective Server1 ? I mean, the secondary SMTP connector should take over,
but I am wondering how potential e-mails that are in the Server1 queues
would be handled by Exchange ? Please advise how I can avoid any e-mail loss
in this case.

My company is putting in a Exchange 2003 server. We are currently have POP3 mail that is hosted externaly by our web host. We want to know/get some advise on what to do w/ peoples exsisting PST file. We will be upgrading every one to Outlook 2003. When we upgrade the client should we (A) leave the PST where it is/ import it where it was or (B) import it as archive.

Of course we want this as seamless as possiable at the client end of things. Does anyone have any POP3 to Exchange migration tips.

Thanks
Tekjock

When users within the domain try to send internal e-mail to a particular user they receive the following NDR in their Inbox:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: TEST
Sent: 2/12/2003 9:20 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Suzanne on 2/12/2003 9:20 AM
You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.

This particular user's AD Exchange General > Deliver Restrictions tab did have settings to accept mail only from a particular group (this group includes all domain users). But even when I set it to accept from Everyone....I still get this message.

About a week ago the fix (which worked for a couple days) seemed to be to delete the mailbox completely, give her a brand new Exchange 2K mailbox, and everything was working. But now all the problems are back. Any ideas as to what is causing this? My next step may be to delete the user account and start fresh.

Thanks.

Hi,
every time I open Outlook, I get i message "enter network password". After i
do so and try to download my e-mails, I get error 0x800CCC92. Problem is
temporarily fixed after i go under the e-mail settings and reenter all
passwords again (as Outllook does not retain them). Yet, this does not always
fix the problem and even when it does, i get the same errors all over again
after I close Outlook and open it again.
Pls. help.

I have been tasked with restoring all e-mails TO/FROM two individuals (one internal, one external) in my organization for a whole calendar year and I'm wondering what would be the best or easiest way to accomplish this. I have ExMerge backups that run every Tuesday and Friday that make brick level backups of all mailboxes. I also have mixed full and incrimental backups made on tape through BackupExec, plus I have archived transaction logs. So out of these three backup types, what would be the best way to recover all e-mails sent between two individuals for the whole calendar year without getting a bunch of duplication or missing e-mails? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Here is what we want to do. We have a HP OfficeJet 9100 series printer/fax/scanner and it allows us to e-mail our scanned documents. The problem is we would like to have the OfficeJet send to our Exchange Server 5.5 instead of using our out sourced internet e-mail provider. The OfficeJets e-mail settings are SMTP server: ###.###.###.###, SMTP port:##, SMTP user name:, and SMTP user password. We currently use our exchange server 5.5 for internal mail and Public folders. I would like to just send to our internal Mailboxes and not have the Officejet us an external server. We dont want our Exchange Server to receive internet e-mail so is there a solution?

Thanks for any help provided.
Ron

how can I implement a rule to bounce back e-mails with Exchange 5.5?
I'd like to let the sender know that my e-mail address has been changed into something else.
is this possible?

How do you add a trailer message to all outgoing e-mail for all userson an exchange server?

Thanks,

David

First of all, I'm new to the Exchange 2003 family. I have an Excahnge 2003 server online in my internal network (only device, no relays in a DMZ (not yet anyways). I have the DNS for internal setup to support e-mail from this service (we are changing our corporate name so without having to change the ADS (2000) I just created an additional DNS zone with our new name and it seems to be working fine.

In addition, I have the new name assoicated to the external (NATted via the firewall (Cisco PIX 515E)) DNS to a external mail server name of mail.anovoamericas.com and it works (well I'm blocking all traffic outside of the necessary protocols for mail to this device).

The problem is when I try to send mail to an address on this server from inside or even outside the network I get the following:

:
Sorry, I couldn't find any host named anovoamericas.com. (#5.1.2)

Then when I tried to send the message to the external DNS name of mail.anovoamericas.com I get:

:
12.181.192.41 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for twilson@mail.anovoamericas.com Giving up on 12.181.192.41.

At least with using the external DNS name that was scoped, I get a response. Now from inside I get simialr results. So this tells me I may need to change the exchange accounts to @mail.anovoamericas.com

Now My questions:

1. How to make this change so when I asdd users this is the default suffix (mail.anovoamericas.com)??
2. Is there a way I can get mail sent to just @anovoamericas.com??

I need to get this working, but I would perfer option 2, but I will take option 1.

Any assistance would be helpful. I just very rusty with Exchange, and I cannot remember the important stuff.. Help!

Thanks,

We have Exchange 2003 running our internal e-mail, and we use a POP3 server for our external e-mail

Ok, now if I were to get a message reply or sent to me internally, I am unable to click on the forward button and forward it toour external e-mail that does not have and exchange account. Our Domain name is the same as the etrernal domain name. (NAME@CBHC.ORGon both)

Exsample: jsmith@cbhc.org sens a message to jdoe@ccbhc.org. (all internal)
Next there is a reply to jsmith@cbhc.org
jsmith says, this is what I was looking for, let me send it to ajones@cbhc.org (who is only external, no exchange e-mail)
When he clicks forward, send it comes back with an error.

Does anyone know if there is a way to allow this to happen, or if how it is setup it can't be done.

Thanks.

Hi,

Can anyone help me with some simple mail test for Exchange 2003. I am unable to recieve external e-mail but can send mail internally without a problem. What are the first steps I can take to test the exchange server? My ISP is currently looking at their end.

Many thanks

Group,

Does anyone know of a book, or video series, that discusses how to become an E-mail/Exchange administrator that starts with the assumption the learner has no knowledge of being an e-mail admin? The books I see on Amazon all expect some prior experience being an e-mail admin.

Thanks,

Jackson
