How to enable Exchange 2003 ActiveSync monitoring, logging and Security

We just implemented ActiveSync in our Exchange FE/BE Enviornment. Its working fine. I want to enable ActiveSync logging now to view which clients used it successfully or if someone had any problem. Also is there any security feature i can implement on the mobile devices for secure communication. Also i want to prevent synchronization if a mobile is stolen or sim is changed.

I have four independent domains in our Active Directory Forest (one forest).
The root domain DOM-root does not host any resources. The other three
domains; Domain-A.internal, Domaine-B.internal and Domain-C.internal
represent separate business entities of our group and are being managed
independently. Domain-A and Domain-B are at the same physical location and
share one Exchange 2003 server implementation. We want to implement
Exchange 2003 at Domain-C, which is at a different site (different city).
Because they are on different business sectors, each of our three entities
has its own public domain name (, and
How can we implement Exchange 2003 at the Domain-C without merging the domain
into the other domains.

Basically we want to have an Exchange server running at Domain-C and being
able to send and receive e-mail under Domain-C public domain without going
through Domain-A or Domain-B. I know this can be achieved with the creation
of a new dedicated Exchange resource forest at the Domain-C location. Is
there any other way without a new dedicated Exchange forest at domain-C? I
am confused with Microsoft one Exchange Organization for each Forest rules.
Can I just install Exchange at Domain-C and manage it separately since I have
access to the Enterprise Admin account.

Note. Our forest root domain Dom-root is at the same physical location than
the Domain-C.
Also we don’t want to change the way Exchange is implemented at Domain-A and
Domain- C.

I have a client who is exchange 2003 on a domain controller.  He wants to separate the two and virtualize the exchange server, and yes, he's aware that exchange 2003 isn't supported in a vm.  My initial thought was to simply demote the DC and do a P2V but apparently this is a very bad idea.

This is a single exchange server in a small organization with just over 100 mailboxes but it's got fairly complex integration with other systems so I'd rather not build an entirely new exchange server and migrate users and everything that it's connecting to it if I don't have to.

I was reading this KB How to Move Exchange Server 2003 to New Hardware and Keep the Same Server Name but am a little unclear about the section discussing exchange on a DC.  If I were to go about the move in this fashion would the new server also need to be a DC?  I certainly hope not but the KB leaves room for doubt and I want to be sure before I start.

Or is there some other method that might be preferable?

I have read many posts and articles on moving Exchange but I'm throughly
confused on my situation. I have done an inplace upgrade on the Old server
that is still running Windows 2000 SP3 with Exchange 2003 SP1. I have the
new server that has Windows 2k3 and need to move the Exchange over to this
box and decomission the old box. I read the article "How to move Exchange
2003 to new hardware and keep the same name" but that states you have to be
running the same OS to make it work. I don't care if I keep the same name,
actually I would like to change it but ..... I'm looking for the most logical

If I installed Exchange on the new box is there anything I need to know
about the moving of mailboxes and will I be able to take the old server
ofline. What do I need to look for? I'm also reading the article "
" and probably didn't need to do an inplace upgrade. However I don't see any
articles looking to move the same Exchange with differnt OS's. Any help is
much appreciated. Thanks.

hi ,

right now i have installed active directory on windows 2003 server with the integration of exchange 2003 on a same machine. The machine i am using is dell server high end machine with raid 5 and 1 gb of ram . but now i want to separate exchange 2003 from domain controller on another high end machine with the same specification but that machine is HP machine . so kindly help me regarding this tell me the configuration or method through which I successfully separate it from DC.

We have to place our exchange server in a new forest.
Can this be done by just following the KB article 822945 ôHow to move exchange 2003 to new hardware and keep the same server nameö or is there a better way?

Thanks for any help!

Can anyone point in the right direction as to the best way to move Exchange
2003 database to a New Exchange 2007 installation.
Many Thanks

Dear Sir,

I have followed the exchange deployment assistant to configure Exchange 2003 and coexist with Exchange 2010 environment, everything works fine with all users mailbox moved to new server.

When I perform the Exchange 2003 uninstallation by select "Remove" in the Add/Remove Exchange 2003 wizard, system mentions that the Recipient Update Server for (Domain) and (Enterprise) are still existed.  I have tried to select remove in under exchange 2003 system manager of "Recipient Update Service", it can only allow to delete Recipient Update Server (Domain), but there are no "Delete" option available in the Recipient Update Service (Enterprise).    Moreover, it is not capable to let me select and move the Exchange server from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.

This steps doesn't mention in the Exchange deployement assistant of Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 document.

May I have any suggestion on it ?

I have 2 domain in different forest in each domain has 1 exchange 2003 for intranet use only.
How to setup Exchange 2003 server in each domain to enable user from domain1 can send mail to user on domain2 and vice versus.

Hello All,

Now I became registered member of community. I hope I will get some suggestions from members.

Our previous technician installed and configured Exchange Server 2003 on Windows Server 2003. Currently we configured the ActiveSync on iPhone using the parameters below:

Mail Server:
Username: xxx
Password: xxx
Domain: domainname (currently it is: FLUP)
SSL: Off

Other Details:

Local Domain Name: FLUP.local
Exchange: exchange.FLUP.local

These settings are working fine. Unfortunately till today I am not able to connect to Exchange 2003 via an external Outlook 2007 client. Internal all is working fine.

In internal we gave these parameters in Outllok 2007:
Exchange Mail Server: exchange.FLUP.local
Username: --> eventually replaced by "Username"

Please note that there is no separation between front-end and back-end. Also the SSL is turned off. Both OMA, OWA and Exchange is configured. i.e., ; /owa ; /exchange

The Outlook Web Access (OWA), Outllok Mobile Access (OMA) and Exchange ActiveSync is enabled and working normally.

Current Exchange Server details as per in IIS manager:

Exadmin: .BackOfficeStorage
Exchange: .BackOfficeStoragemydomain.comMBX
Exchweb: C:Program FilesExchsrvrExchWeb
Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync: C:Program FilesExchsrvrOMASync
OMA: C:Program FilesExchsrvrOMABrowse
Public: .BackOfficeStoragemydomain.comPublic Folders

Please help us in this scenario. We already tried to Bing it, nothing usefull links found. We hope we will expect solutions from these forums. Thanks you.

Hi All,

In domain ABC I have exchange 2003 and we recently acquired XYZ company.
To enable email access to XYZ company users, we have created mailboxes in our domain ABC.
XYZ domain users access emails through ABC domain webmail on there own domain over internet.

Now we are establishing forest level trust between ABC and XYZ domains.
Question is after forest level trust how i need to make sure XYZ domain users can access mailboxes from outlook without password prompt.

Please help.

During the occasional maintenance cycles at some of our customers, I would like to test the backup of the Exchange server. However, I must admit I don't know the smartest way to do that.

The setup is usually like this:
Windows 2003 DC running Exchange 2003 SP1 (haven't had the time to apply SP2 yet).
We use NTBACKUP for backing up everything.

Now, how would I go about testing if the Exchange backup is good? I would think there is a smarter way than to restore on top of the existing database - if the backup is bad, then their mail is gone...

Can I create a generic test setup (for example using VMWARE) with an installation of Windows 2003 + Exchange 2003 and then use that for testing? Or do I have to have an exact replica of the clients server setup?

I apologize if this has been asked before.

Best regards,

Hi All;

I am having a problem when trying to uninstall Exchange 2003 from one of our member servers.  As a note, this is not the only server and also was not the first Exchange server in the organization.  All mailboxes have been moved off the server and the server possesses no other jobs (i.e. Routing Group Master)

When I try to remove the components in Add/Remove Programs, I get the following error:
"Setup encountered an error while checking prerequisites for the component "Microsoft Exchange":0x80072030 (8240): There is not such object on the server.

This is an exerpt from the log file:

Everything else in the log file before this error seems to be fine.

I have confirmed that I have all necessary rights to perform this action and followed the steps outlined by Microsoft to prepare for an Exchange uninstall.

Does anyone out there have any idea what this means, or how it can be fixed?

Is there any link or recommendation on how to connect 2 Exchange 2003 servers with different organization? TIA

Hi I am new to OWA in Exchange 2003. I know how to enable OWA for a specific user using ADUC. My question is how to enable it for a group of users using a few clicks ?
Does OWA support memberships by groups at all?

Thanks in Advance.

I found an article from one server to another but I am moving my Exchange 2003 server to another server with a different name. After backing up my info store I moved the actual store into place and started services. Doing this gives me an error when I go to OWA, "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable" so how do I move the data over.

I guess I could just backup mail to a PST, and restore which wouldn't be too hard.

We are using SBS 2003 (Standard Edition) and would like to use Exchange 2007 with it. How to get Exchange 2007 and use it with our already running SBS 2003 ? (We don't want to upgrade to Windows Server 2003 from SBS 2003).

Thanks !

I have SBS2003 Premium with Exchange 2003.
I made two templates one for each domain (DOMAIN1 and DOMAIN2).
I have a User that need both templates (email addres1 and email address 2), but on Outlook 2003 just appears one of then to be selected. How to setup Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003 to select the correct email (template) that the message will be sent?

I have an NT4 domain with a single Exchange 5.5 server. I have a new AD
domain, with an Exchange 2003 server that was installed into the Exchange 5.5
server’s site. What I want to do now is migrate the NT4 users to AD, and
then move their mailboxes from the Exchange 5.5 server to the Exchange 2003

The problem I’ve encountered during testing is that when an NT4 user who has
a mailbox on the Exchange 5.5 server is migrated to AD using the ADMT, the
user is not mail-enabled. Using the ADUC that comes with Exchange 2003, I
see no Exchange tabs in the migrated account’s properties, and in Exchange
Tasks my options are “Create Mailbox”, “Establish E-mail Address”, and
“Remove Exchange Attributes”. The “Move Mailbox” option is not available.
Sure, I could move the mailbox by changing the Home Server on the Advanced
tab in Exchange 5.5 Administrator, but if I’m going to be moving hundreds of
accounts at once, that’s not a practical solution.

Incidentally, I have some accounts that were migrated to AD *before* the
Exchange 2003 server was installed, and have mailboxes on the Exchange 5.5
server. When the
Exchange 2003 server was installed, these AD accounts became mail-enabled.
When I go to Exchange Tasks for any of these accounts, I see the Move Mailbox
option, and it recognizes that the Exchange 5.5 server is the current home

So, the question is: How can I mail-enable the NT4/Exchange 5.5 users that
are being migrated *after* the installation of the Exchange 2003 server, so
that I can use ADUC to move their mailboxes en masse?

I am new to computers and I am in the plans of setting exchange for my small
business. This is what I have done so far:

Register my domain name:
Install Windows 2003 (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP etc)
Installed Exchange 2003 (USers Configured and emailing internally only)
Just have only a DSL connections with Bellsouth (Later on a T1)

Question: What do I need to do be able to send email outside and receive
email from outside people? How to Configure?

Remember I am new to this so please simple expnation.. Thanks. Do I need to
forward DNS??? PLEASE HELP.
