hotfix 968858 install fails

I'm trying to install the hotfix described in KB968858 - part of what
this hotfix does is allow Outlook 2007 to check Subject Alternative
Names in a certificate (which is what we are doing for our Exchange
2010 install).

Every time I run the exe, I get a vague "the installation failed" and
nothing in the event log. My Office 2007 is only at SP1 (a requirement
for the hotfix).

I've tried searching thru the descriptions of all the other office
updates that are installed, but none seem to list this particular
hotfix. Can someone tell me if it is included in another update for
Office 2007?

I'm trying to run Office XP on a new cleanly-installed Windows 7 64 bit
system. I get the exact symptoms as described in KB article 969168
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969168), concerning the need for the missing
Microsoft Agent. So I requested and received the associated hotfix. When I
go to install the hotfix, the install fails with "not applicable to your
computer." Needless to say, the Office XP problem remains. What do I do
next?

Also, Outlook does not retain the email account passwords, even though the
"remember password" box is checked. Is this problem related to the first?

Thanks,
David

One of my users who has Office 2007 asked me to install Business Contact
Manager for Outlook 2007. I got the install files from our company's MOLP rep
and ran the install. It asked me to install two Hotfixes for .NET, which I
did, then proceeded with the BCM 2007 install. At the very end it said
installation failed and pointed me to the log file.

I've pasted the last section of the log file below. Note that it says
installation failed but I can't see any reason why.

Thanks,
Don Anderson

I tried to install Exchange 2003 SP2 and it went through the motions, the
install failed, claiming that the Mobility Service didn't stop in time.
Since there is no such service installed on my machine, and Outlook Mobile
Access in not enabled, I don't know why it tried to stop such a service in
the first place. Of course, the KB is silent (as far as I can tell) on the
subject. Is the service referred to actually named something else entirely?
By defauls Antice Sync is enabled, but I don't know if it has a service
specific to it.

Is this message a red herring? Enquiring minds want to know!

I will soon have to migrate Exch03 Ent SP2 on Server03 Ent SP2 to new hardware. I have reviewed http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997176(EXCHG.65).aspx. How can I easily determine which Exch03 SP2 post service pack hotfixes are installed on the old server so I can make sure they are installed on the new server? Is there any other documentation I should review before performing the hardware migration?

Hi,Trying to install a front-end server on our Exchange 2000 site. I'm using Exchnage 2000 Enterprise for this installation.During setup I get the following error:"Setup failed while installing sub-component Microsoft Exchange Server-Level Objects with error code 0x80072030 (please consult the installation logs for detailed description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again."The installation log shows:"Setup failed while Creating Active Directory objects for Microsoft Exchange Server-Level Objects (error 0x80072030: There is no such object on the server.)"And the installation fail.Any idea why? Thanks,Eyal

I have recently upgraded Office XP to 2007 pro plus omitting Outlook
from the upgrade by selecting 'Not Available' on the customized
install. When i have re-run the installer to add Outlook at a later
point the only option i get is to unintstall all Office products and
start from scratch.

I have also noticed that on occasions when running a full upgrade
including Outlook that the install fails and rolls back - again
prompting a full un-install of all Office packages.

trying to run just the OutlookMUI en-us.msi is also useless as this
seems to do nothing.

I'm working with several Windows Server 2008 servers. Some are
physical, some are virtual on ESX, some on Hyper-V. All are running
SP2.

When I install roles that require admin tool shortcuts to be created,
the install fails - the cbs log file points to the shortcut creation
as the culprit. If I install the admin tool for the role first, on its
own, both the admin tool and the role install successfully.

Anyone have any idea why this might be?

Thx.

I did create another user with admin rights but still the same problem.
I tried to download just the SQL 2005 Express program itself from
sqlexpr.exe and still got the same access denied message Error Code:
0x80070005 (5). The system config check passed with all in the green. I
thought I may be missing something simple. Looking for Zebra’s and not
horses.

Does the location and way the .exe file extracts have anything to do
with the access denied issue?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I am attempting to install Exchange Server 2003 EE in my test lab.  I have created a new domain and want to install Exchange on my Domain Controller.  Installed Windows Server 2003 SP2 and all patches, prepared the forest and domain and installed prerequisite components.  During the setup routine I get the following error:

Setup failed while installing subcomponent Information Store Service - error 0XC00736B1

Does anyone know what's occuring?

Thanks

Ian

Team,

I just started Exchnage 2k7 while am installing the new installation if Ex2k7 and running the command and getting the below error

Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup

Preparing Exchange Setup

No server roles will be installed

Exchange organization name is required for this mode. To specify an organization
n name, use the /OrganizationName parameter.

Exchange Server setup encountered an error.

When i googled this, and found it would be fine once you give Organisation Name in the time of setup.

Why this preparead switch keep failing in command mode?

I am currently in the process of transitioning from Exchange 2k3 to Exchange 2k7. When attempting to install exchange 2007 on server 2008 x64 I get the following installation error:

Client Access Role
Failed

Error:
Unable to create Internet Information Services (IIS) directory entry. Error message is: The data is invalid.
. HResult = -2147024883.

The data is invalid.
.
Directory Path: IIS://newmail.soc.tas.edu.au/W3SVC/1/ROOT
Detail:
server name: newmail.soc.tas.edu.au
local machine name: NEWMAIL
local machine fqdn: NewMail.soc.tas.edu.au

The data is invalid.

I dont know where to go from here and could not find any useful information anywhere else.

Has anyone seen this before or know how to fix it?

ExBPA also gives me a warning about the "SupressStateChanges" not being in place even though I configured it according to the technet article.

Thanks in anticipation
David

Please help !...

Just wondering, if after a failed installation of exchange server 2003
enterprise, i can re-install again. Or if i'll need to uninstall then
re-install. The installation failed while installing messaging and
collaboration services with a 0xc0070534 while installing subcomponent
microsoft exchange server level objects. Believe this is from an AD
situation that i believe is now resolved. This is a second exchange server
in the organization(the first and existing one is exchange server 2003
standard)and does not have any mailboxes on it. I was putting it in the tree
and exchange organization as a prep for moving all of our mailboxes to it
because it is exchange enterprise and a higher quality server. Thanks

Full Error: Setup failed while installing sub-component Administrative Group with error code 0x80071392 (blah blah try again...)

Environment/Situation: I have Exchange 2k on Windows 2k running fine and HAD an OWA Front-end server running Exchange 2k on Windows 2k that I killed.

Problem Desc: Since we were already planning to upgrade all Exchange servers to 2k3 and windows 2k3 I decided to start rebuilding the dead OWA server with the new OS and Exchange. The server was rebuilt with Windows 2k3, then patched. I then ran down the pre-install check list of forestprep, domainprep, etc... The new server name was added to the Exchange Domain Servers group and the user installing Exchange is a domain admin and an Exchange Admin. I've installed and re-installed about 6 times changing little things here and there but still get the same error. I'm under the assumption that since the old front-end OWA server died and wasn't removed properly that it is the cause of my problems but after searching the MS KB & the net in general for 2 days without any luck I'm at a loss.

Help please...

One other thing - using adsiedit.msc under Configuration/Services/Microsoft Exchange//Admin Group/First Admin Group/Folder Hierarchies ... The object in the right window, Public Folders - when I go to the properties of the object I get (The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist.)

Thanks for all your help!
