cannot start MS Outlook - errors have been detected in the file Outlook.pst!

But because I cannot even open Outlook, I cannot use scanpst.exe (which I do not have in the computer) to diganose or repair, or look at Outlook help, or import any repaired file.

Help!  Thanks

I tried opening outlook 2007 on Vista and received the following "cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:UsersnameLocalMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.pst. Quit Outlook and then use the Inbox repair tool Scanpst.exe to diagnose and repair errors."

I opened Scanpst.exe, but I didn't know which folder or file to search after I clicked "Browse."  Please help also I am not very proficient in computers or programs. Please be specific. Thanks

Also, I used to be able to use Outlook 2007 on my computer with the same operating system that I have now.

yikes. Just opened my trusty Outlook program, have used it for years. have several email accounts all of which I manage in Outlook. Love it. So today, I open it up and all of my accounts are there, and I scroll down to my business account and the folders are not open. So I click on the little triangle on the right and get the message The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file.
and then a long file name. WHAT THE HECK? so I close and open Outlook, same thing, I close and reopen my computer twice, and it didn´t fix it! YIKES! This is after a few days ago Hotmail switched and says my account is FULL, where did that come from? Never had that happen before and looked to see if I could buy more space, and don´t seem to be able to. Anyway, if anyone knows the fix for this, I would be so grateful. Funny thing is before either of these problems happened, a friend basically indicated I was an idiot to not have gmail...yea yea, one problem happens, then the other....I think she jinxed me!

This PST files was backed up and saved on my old computer.  I am attempting to inport this data file (Thousands of e-mails - 2 GB worth) into my new Outlook 2010.  I get the prompt C:usersRonsavedfilesOutlook.pst   Errors have been detected in the file C:

I then run the suggested scan to fix the errors and get to 2% in phase 5 every time and get this message:

An error has occured which caused the scan to be stopped.  No changes have been made to the scanned file

Does anyone have a solution or experienced this as well?  Thousands of saved e-mails are at stake.

we use Windows XP with Office 2007 and exchange 2003

I have a user who when trying to open/expand a personal folder is getting the following message:

Errors have been detected in the file: C:.... outlook.outlook.pst .Quit outlook and all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more information about the Inbox repair tool, see HELP.

I ran the scanpst.exe per the directions in this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/287497

and about 1/2 through the scan I got an error message:

An Error occured which caused the scan to be stopped.  no Changes have been made to the scanned file

unfortunatly this pst file is not on a network drive where it might have been backed up

she has no other issues with Outlook or other pst files and the pst file that is having issues is only 1.3 gigs so I don't think it's too big

Any suggestions what I do now?

Thanks

Lynn

I run Windows 2007 with MS Office Small Business 2007. I have been running this pair for more than 1 year. 2 weeks ago I received the following message:

For more info about the Inbox repair tool, see Help.

I have tried to find Scanpst.exe using all of the tools/locations provided in other messages - no luck. I have tried the outlook.exe /resetnavpane , again with no change.

I have just bought and installed Office Professional Plus 2010, but cannot access the email facility.  I had this fault with the old version - hence the purchase.

Errors have been detected in the file C:UsersTamirAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlookOut look.pst"

Getting desparate as have some valuable information in the email Inbox and Sent storage.

Error message states "Cannot open your default e-mail folder. Errors have been detected in the file. Quit Outlook and all mail enabled applicationsand then use the Inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair erros in the file.

I ran "Scanpst.exe" which was unable to complete due to errors

Can someone advise what my next course of action is?

I try to open Outlook 2007. I get a message ",,,Errors have been detected in

can get Outlook to open and correct the problem?

I notice yesterday I could not delete one email, said there was an error
detected in file. I tried the Inbox diagnose through Help tab..no such issues
(so I read). Now I cannot get on Outlook to open, I get an error box shows up
saying:
"Cannot start Microsoft Ofice Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The
set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file.
C:....Outlook.pst. Quit Outlook and all mail-enbabled applications, and then
use the Inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am using Outlook 2007 with Windows 7.

Outlook 2007 has been running great for half a year since I installed
it. Now I am getting this message:

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook
window. The set of folders cannot be opened.
Errors have been detected in the file
C:UsersuserAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.pst Quit
Outlook and all mail-enabled applications,
and then use the Inbox repair took (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and
repair errors in the file. For more
information about the Inbox repair tool, see Help."

I have done a repair for Outlook 2007 and a reinstall, it still gives
me this error.

Once I get the error, I cannot open Outlook (it gives me this message
box with only an OK and then I have
to close out, so I can't backup the pst files.

I can't seem to run Scanpst.exe (the file is not showing up). How do
I show hidden files in Windows 7?
(I also can't find the .pst files)

Please advise.

Everything was fine with outlook until I decided to move my pst files
in an external hard disk drive-NTFS (in order to have the same pst at
home and office). A few days later Outlook couldn't start:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.
The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the
file []. Quit Outlook and all mail-enabled applications, and then use
the Inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in
the file. For more information about the Inbox repair tool, see Help.

So I tried to run scanpst but I got the error:
An error has occurred that caused the scan to be stopped. No changes
have been made to the scanned file

Although I used a very recent backup and started again to use Outlook,
in a few days I got the same errors!

My mailbox consists of 5 pst files. No one of them exceeds 700MB.
Scanpst aborts when I try to apply it on the core pst file (621MB). I
am using Microsoft Office 2007 SP1.

I have read several solutions (restart in safe mode and run scanpst,
quit antivirus app and google desktop) but nothing seems to apply in
my case.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Makis

Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm Hien from TECOTEC., JSC - Vietnam.
I have a problem with my Outlook, please help me!
When I try to open Microsoft Outlook, following error appear: "cannot start microsoft office outlook. cannot open the outlook window. the set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file...".
I have tried to run "SCANPST.EXE" to scan file "Outlook.pst" in my data folder (please see attached file "SCAN PST file.jpg").
After scanning, I tried to repair it, however is cannot be finished (please see attached file "error 2.jpg").
My data folder is about 4GB.

Can you consider and advise me how to solve this problem?
Thanks,
Hien

I am running XP SP3 and Office Enterprise 2007.
My problem is that Outlook just quit working a couple of weeks ago and have not been able to get it to launch.
When I try to start it, it acts like it is about to load the emails, but then a window appears saying:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:Documents and SettingsAdrianLocal SettingApplication DataMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.pst. Quit Outlook and all enabled applications, and then use the Inbox tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more information about the Inbox repair tool, see Help."

I have tried this tool which seem to 'repair the Outlook.pst file but Outlook still came out with the same window. I removed all Office 2007 and re-installed still getting the same results.
Another thing, the size of the Outlook.pst is only 307M so I would think that there would be no problem there.

At this point I am at a loss and do not know what else to try. Hopefully someone is out there who can help me on this issue.

Thanks.
